“The child is so dutiful and kind in every way. She worries that I won’t eat and insists on sharing her food. If I don’t eat, she won’t eat either. She is such a fool!”

Jaime was beaming, her eyes full of affection, as she rattled off many small details.

Jasper did not interrupt Jaime, listening attentively until Tatiana returned with the brewed tea. Only then did Jaime stop, though clearly still eager to talk.

“Here.”

Tatiana handed the only intact cup to Jaime and the heavily chipped one to Jasper.

Jasper looked down at it. The chip was quite large—the kind that could easily cut a lip.

Felix and the others were squeezed outside, with Felix peering in from the doorway. When he saw this, his heart sank.

This is outrageous! Who would dare give the boss a cup like that?

This is a death wish!

Jaime saw it and immediately tried to switch the cups out of embarrassment. “This shouldn’t be used by a guest. You take this one…”

Tatiana, however, could not allow Jaime to use such a hazardous cup, and with a swift movement, she swapped the cups back.

She acted unwillingly.

She was certain that a man like Jasper would never drink this cheap tea–the tea leaves themselves were salvaged scrap.

Jasper curved his lips, took the cup she offered, and took a sip.

Tatiana froze, quickly recovering her composure.

Seeing that the moment was right, Jaime finally addressed the main issue. “Cindy, your husband has come for you. You should go back with him. This place isn’t suitable for your recovery.”

She shook her head. “I’m not going.” She then added, “I don’t remember him. My head was injured, and I’ve forgotten everything from before. I only remember that I am an orphan.”

No parents, no husband–completely alone.

Jaime’s eyes were full of sympathy, and she held her hand. “Cindy, how can you say you have no family? I am your family.”

Tatiana offered a faint smile. “Yes, I have you.”

Jasper watched them, his eyes deep and thoughtful.

Jaime hadn’t entertained guests in a long time, so now she brought out all the treats she usually kept hidden, reluctant to eat them herself.

Felix glanced at the offerings and nearly needed a shot of adrenaline. Where did she get those cheaply packaged foods?

Those items wouldn’t even be sold in a major store! How could the boss possibly eat them?

Tatiana felt the same way.

She was so terrified Jasper would show his distaste and hurt Jaime’s feelings that her heart was pounding.

“Hurry, eat! This is delicious. Cindy loves this the most.”

Jasper looked at the brightly colored handful of chocolate candies and glanced at Tatiana.

“Thank you.”

He took them naturally but did not eat them, merely setting them aside.

This was no surprise.

How could Jasper, the Chairman of Jackson Corp, who had been raised in luxury since childhood, possibly eat stale chocolate?

Once, on White Day, she had specially flown to Switzerland to commission a master chocolatier to custom–make an extremely expensive chocolate for him. When she gave it to Jasper, he threw it straight into the trash with disgust.

She still remembered him saying, “Mrs. Jackson, stop wasting your effort. I find food touched by your hands to be dirty.”

The memory surged into her mind, a sharp sting in her heart.
