Ann crouched down, picking carefully.

‘Tatiana‘ glanced at the shopkeeper. The latter immediately said, “Little one, who are you picking flowers. for?”
Ann replied seriously, “My little brother.”
“What a good big sister. Does your brother like daisies? We just got a new batch in, right here, take a look.”
Ann, wanting the best, followed the shopkeeper inside.
‘Tatiana‘ pretended not to notice, fiddling with some lilies, suppressing a smile. Suddenly, two thumps came from inside.
The bodyguards at the door immediately rushed in. They saw the young miss standing to the side with an icy expression, and the shopkeeper fainted on the ground.
‘Tatiana’s heart sank. She feigned panic, ran in, and swept Ann into her arms. “What’s wrong? Ann, are you okay?”
Ann pointed at the shopkeeper. “Mommy, she was up to no good. She tried to knock me out.”
“What? How could she! Grab her!”
Unfortunately, by the time the bodyguards moved to grab her, the shopkeeper was already dead, having bitten off her own tongue.
A bodyguard’s expression turned grim. “Report to the boss. This isn’t something an ordinary person is capable of.”
Suicide upon failure. It had to be a specially trained assassin.
Preschool was out of the question now. They returned directly to the residence. Jasper also rushed back from the company. When he learned what had happened, his expression was dark.
“Investigate her background, and the flower shop. Get it all.”
“Yes!”
Jasper turned to look at Ann, but the little girl was completely fine, just a bit annoyed. “Daddy, I should have stopped her from killing herself. I hit the wrong spot.”
He chuckled in disbelief, stroking her head. “No. You did very well. You’ve learned quickly this past year.”
Ever since the incident, Ann had proactively asked to learn combat to protect her mommy and brother.
She was young, so Jasper hadn’t arranged brute–force training. Instead, he had found a professional to teach her incapacitating moves–for example, how to use a silver needle hidden in her watch to hit a pressure point and cause unconsciousness in one second.
She was small and not strong enough to pierce deeply, which was why the assassin still had the strength to

“Daddy, I won’t fail next time!”
“It was my oversight.”
They had let someone exploit an opening from only a few meters away.
He wouldn’t be so negligent in the future.

“Daddy, don’t blame Mommy. Mommy just wanted to get flowers for Hubert. She cried on the way back. She’s very sad.”
“Mm, I know. Go rest for a bit.”
After soothing his daughter, Jasper turned and went to the guest room. Before he pushed open the door, he heard suppressed crying.
Jasper knocked. The crying inside stopped abruptly. The door was pulled open, revealing a face with red, swollen eyes.
“Jasper…”
“Are you okay?”
She wiped her eyes messily. “I’m fine. Is Ann okay? It’s all my fault. If only I hadn’t bought flowers. If something had happened to Ann, I could never forgive myself.”
Her tone was filled with self–blame, and her words trembled. It didn’t seem faked.
“Tatiana, calm down. Ann wasn’t hurt. You don’t need to blame yourself.”
She remained dejected, unable to let it go.
Jasper looked down at her and abruptly asked, “What flowers were you picking at the time?”
She froze.
What flowers was she picking?
How would she know?
Her mind had been entirely focused on Ann, monitoring the situation. How could she have paid attention to what flowers she was fiddling with?
“I forgot.”
“Forgot? You said you were so focused on picking flowers that you didn’t see Ann go inside, and now you’ve forgotten what flowers you were so focused on?”
‘Tatiana’s heart tightened, but her eyes only grew redder. “Jasper, are you blaming me? I know I was wrong. I’ll never be so careless again.”
Jasper ignored this and repeated, “What flowers were you picking?”

“Tatiana‘ gritted her teeth, pretending to recall. “Lilies. I was picking lilies! If you suspect me, I’ll just leave!”
With that, she went to her room, grabbed a travel bag, and began putting her things in it, as if she had been insulted and was about to leave.
She only packed two sets of clothes, taking nothing else from the room.
Jasper stepped forward and took the bag from her. “I’m not telling you to leave.”
“Give it back!” she bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. “I know no matter what I do, I can’t be who I was. You only love the me from before, not the me now. Continuing like this will just make us both unhappy. Let’s just separate for a while.”
Jasper reached out and pulled her into a hug, his voice softening. “I didn’t mean to blame you.”
She cried and shot back, “Then why were you interrogating me? Ann was almost hurt. I was more scared than anyone. I’m her mother, but you’re questioning me. Why?”
“I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.”
She struggled a few times but couldn’t break his hold. She just cried against his chest for a while.
He gently patted her back. “It won’t happen again. I’m sorry. Don’t cry.”
