“Chop, chop, chop–can’t you think straight for one second? Didn’t you see I wasn’t myself? Someone drugged me.”
He paused, his voice softening slightly. “But… thank you.”
If she hadn’t burst in when she did, he might have actually fallen into their trap.
Tammy finally understood. She let out a soft huff. “How is it that the moment you leave my side, your life turns into such a mess?”
Lucas froze. A strange sensation welled up inside him–one he had never experienced before. It felt almost like… grievance.
Tammy reached out and patted his forehead. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll protect you!”
Lucas averted his eyes and stood up quickly, turning away so she couldn’t see the crack in his
composure.
“Since you’re up, it’s time for you to go back. Tatiana will be looking for you.”
He hadn’t forgotten Tatiana’s previous warning; he had no intention of letting Tammy get dragged further into his family’s filth.
“You’re chasing me away!”
“Yes.”
“You…”
“Just go. I have things to handle.”
Seeing his coldness, Tammy’s anger flared. She gave him a hard shove. “You really are a bastard!” She stomped out, fuming.
She left in a whirlwind of rage, slamming the door so hard it broke off its hinges, hanging crookedly in the frame.
Lucas took a deep breath, forced his emotions down, and answered his buzzing phone.
“The woman talked. Are you coming over?”
“Wait for me.”
He grabbed his coat and headed out.

Holton stood with his wife and his favorite son, John, backed by a crowd of corporate executives. They were waiting anxiously, necks craned toward the horizon.
After standing for what felt like hours, John shifted his weight and complained, “Dad, who are we even waiting for? Who has the nerve to make the entire family stand here like this?”
Holton snapped at him with rare severity. “Watch your tone! This is a guest of the highest caliber. You will not show even a hint of disrespect.”
John didn’t buy it. “Is there really a guest more important than the Lund family?”
Holton let out a cold sneer. “The Lund family is nothing–we’re just big fish in a tiny pond. If you can’t use your head, go home. If you offend my guest, you’re out of this family for good!”
It was an unprecedented threat. John swallowed his complaints immediately, not daring to make another sound.
Soon, a luxury liner slowly docked.
Two rows of bodyguards escorted a man down the gangway.
He was dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit. His face, carved with a cold, divine precision, was set in a mask of frost. His gaze was sharp, and he carried an aura of raw power and nobility that felt entirely natural.
John caught the man’s eye for a split second and shuddered, quickly looking away. Just that look felt like being cut by a blade.
Who the hell was this?
Holton rushed forward eagerly. “Welcome! I am Holton. I’ve been expecting you. A banquet has been prepared in your honor. Please, this way.”
The man was none other than Jasper.
His cold eyes swept over Holton’s extended hand. He didn’t take it. “No need,” he said tonelessly. “I have business to attend to.”
Holton didn’t seem bothered by the slight. He pulled his hand back and said carefully, “Whatever you need, just say the word. I carry some weight here in Bellwood; I would be honored to assist you.”
Standing behind them, John nearly thought he had the wrong father. Was this groveling man really his arrogant, untouchable dad? In all of Bellwood, he had never seen his father treat
