As time ticked by, Rose became increasingly restless. She had already mentally braced herself for a long, grueling night of his company.

However, just as the evening progressed, Foster checked the time and stood up. “You two eat at home. I have a business dinner. Don’t wait up for me; go to sleep first.”

At those words, a massive wave of relief washed over Rose, so visible that she nearly stumbled. She wanted nothing more than for him to stay out all night.

Yet, on the surface, she had to maintain her role. She forced a concerned look and asked, “Will you be back late? I’ll wait for you. I won’t be able to rest otherwise.”

“Alright then. I’ll try to be back as early as I can.”

She nearly lost her poise as a refined socialite, mentally slapping herself for her own big mouth.

The man put on his coat and, following his usual habit, pulled her into a brief embrace and kissed her cheek. He repeated, “Wait for me.”

Rose squeezed out a smile. “Of course I will.”

He drove away toward his rendezvous.

The entire second floor of a seaside restaurant had been reserved. A man leaned against a sofa, facing the ocean, swirling a glass of champagne in his hand.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.”

The man turned slowly. It was Jasper.

The two were clearly old acquaintances. Jasper gestured toward a chair. “Sit.”

At that moment, Norman walked over carrying two bottles of wine, offering a casual greeting. “Haven’t seen you in years. You’ve certainly turned into a… well, a polished scoundrel.”

Rose’s husband, Foster Wynn, was an old friend of Jasper and Norman, and their history ran deep.

Foster glanced at Norman. “They finally let you back out?”

Norman’s face stiffened. “You’re as sharp–tongued as ever.”

The three men sat on the sofa, enjoying the sea breeze and the wine. However, it was obvious to everyone that Jasper’s mind was elsewhere.

Foster wasn’t entirely sure of the details, but Norman couldn’t help but tease, “He’s trapped in his own romantic tragedy. His wife is right here in this city, and he can’t even see her. Yesterday, he pathetically sent a truckload of gifts to her grandmother for her birthday. Worth hundreds of millions, too.”

Jasper shot him a cold look, and Norman quickly rubbed his nose, looking a bit sheepish.

Foster frowned, then said suddenly, “Your wife and mine are friends.”

“Rose told me she made a new friend recently and went to her grandmother’s birthday celebration. My son even made two new friends–one named Hubert and the other Ann.”

Jasper’s expression shifted slightly. “My children.”

They exchanged looks. Foster adjusted his glasses and voiced his honest opinion: “They’re good kids.”

Norman muttered under his breath, “Small world. To think they’d cross paths like that.”

“They get along very well,” Foster added. “Rose is quite fond of her.”

Jasper’s features softened. “Don’t let them know about our connection.”

“Understood.”

Norman leaned in and asked, “Are you still not planning on bringing her back? Are you going to let her stay in this corner of the world forever?”

“That’s my business. You don’t need to worry about it.”

Norman rolled his eyes. “Fine, I’m sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong. You two and your families… it’s all too much trouble.”

Among them, only Norman was still single. He felt Jasper’s situation was the most tragic, while Foster’s was the most complicated. None of them had it easy. Perhaps, he thought, being alone was best after all.

Foster asked, “How long do you plan to stay?”

“We’ll see.”

Jasper had originally come to Bellwood for business, but now that Tatiana was here, his legs felt as though they were rooted to the spot. Perhaps staying in the same city as her was a form of solace. He missed her- missed her until his heart physically ached. He had suppressed the urge to drag her back a thousand times. He was in agony.

He had thought that merely being in the same city would be enough, even if they didn’t meet. But their paths were destined to cross in a way far more unexpected than he imagined.

After several days of close observation, Dr. Xander finally formulated a preliminary treatment plan.

Tatiana had prepared herself for a grueling regimen–handfuls of pills, acupuncture, or even electroshock therapy. Instead, Dr. Xander simply handed her a checklist and told her to complete the tasks on it.

The items were simple in theory but troublesome in practice. More importantly, they were bizarre.
