A thick mist began to swirl, slowly enveloping them.

Tatiana’s voice cut through the fog, sharp and urgent. “Something’s wrong. Retreat! Now!”

Inhaling too much toxic miasma meant certain death. It was no wonder the base felt no need for sentries; the forest itself allowed no living thing to survive. They sprinted back, locked in a life–or–death race against the encroaching fog.

As they burst out of the tree line, they ran headlong into a group preparing to enter the forest.

Tammy’s eyes widened with joy the moment she saw her. “Tati!”

The entire group turned their heads in unison. Tammy was the first to reach her, wrapping her in a frantic embrace. “Tati! Thank God! You’re alive! You’re actually alive!”

Tatiana staggered for a few steps, her lips parting as if to speak, but her vision suddenly went black. She collapsed.

“Tati!”

Behind her, more than half of the tactical police team also slumped to the ground. Captain Ben Rand, the strongest among them, held on just long enough to bark out an order through his ragged breaths. “Get her to the hospital! She inhaled the most miasma!”

To lead them out, Tatiana had unhesitatingly taken the front. Relying on her memory of the terrain, she had carved a path to survival for everyone else. But in the process, she had inevitably breathed in the highest concentration of the toxins.

She had made it this far on nothing but raw, stubborn willpower.

When Tatiana finally woke up in the hospital, she found herself surrounded. Hubert and Ann were the first to scramble onto the bed, clinging to her tightly, their large eyes swimming with tears.

Lindsey sat nearby, quietly dabbing at the corners of her eyes. “You scared us to death. Why on earth did you go skydiving? And for an accident like this to happen… what would we have done if you didn’t come back?”

Tatiana opened her mouth, her voice weak. “I’m sorry… for making you worry.”

“You silly child.”

A group standing by the door finally ventured into the room, but Tammy blocked their path with a fierce glare. “Stay back! Don’t you dare come any closer!”

Tatiana recognized them immediately. “Tammy, let them through.”

It was Thirteen, one of Jasper’s most trusted inner circle and his head of personal security. He had protected her in the past. Tammy stepped aside reluctantly, allowing Thirteen to approach the bed.

“…Ms. Tatiana, where is the Boss? Is he safe?”

She took a deep breath and recounted everything that had happened, hiding nothing. The room fell silent. Faces grew grim as the shadow of the situation loomed over them. No one had expected such a terrifying organization to be hidden in such a remote corner of the world.

Thirteen’s expression turned deathly pale when he heard that Jasper was wounded and unable to escape. “Thank you. We’ll take our leave now.”

They turned to go, but Tatiana called out, “Wait!”

“It’s useless for you to go there like that.”

“We have to go.” Their eyes were filled with a suicidal resolve to rescue their leader.

Tatiana shook her head. “I’m not trying to stop you. I’m going with you.

Lindsey and Tammy gasped in horror. “Absolutely not!”

Just hearing about the ordeal was terrifying enough; they couldn’t fathom her going back into that nightmare.

“I know the terrain,” Tatiana insisted. “You’ll get lost the moment you enter. Follow me.”

Thirteen hesitated, shaking his head. “The Boss would never agree to this. You don’t need to involve yourself; we will handle it.”

As Jasper’s confidants, they knew exactly what Tatiana meant to him. If the Boss found out they had allowed her to walk back into danger, they were dead men.

Tatiana didn’t back down, her gaze sharp and piercing. “Either you go in with me, or I go in alone.”

They fell silent.

“Please wait outside for a moment,” she said.

“Yes, ma’am.” Thirteen’s attitude was profoundly respectful, no different from how he treated Jasper himself.

Once they had cleared the room, Lindsey was the first to protest. “No! Tatiana, you cannot go!”
