Tatiana offered a brief explanation. “She can survive in the wilderness on her own. She might not match. your raw combat power, but in that forest, she is more than enough to keep you safe. Furthermore, she’s fast–faster than any of you.”
After a quick physical evaluation, the team had no more objections. The woman’s stamina was terrifying, she was a force of nature. No one could outrun her, and more importantly, she could carry a grown man through the thicket without breaking a stride.
Fortunately, Tammy had a knack for languages. During her time in Hindersville, she had picked up enough daily English that basic communication wouldn’t be an issue.
The two prepared to depart.
Before they left, Tatiana pulled Tammy into a brief embrace. “Come back safely.”
Tammy smiled, returning the hug with a firm squeeze. “Don’t worry, I’m very strong!”
“I know. I’ll be waiting for you.”
Lucas stood nearby, his lips parting as if to say something, but he found the words stuck in his throat. Ultimately, he remained silent. Tammy shot him a quick glance, let out a soft huff, and turned away without a word.
“Tammy…” Lucas called out instinctively, but she was already gone. He stood there, feeling a hollow sense of loss.
Tammy was gone for two days. Just as the team began to fear the worst, she burst out of the woods, carrying the technician on her back and looking somewhat disheveled. The technician had fainted and was rushed to the hospital.
Tatiana checked Tammy over carefully. “Are you hurt?”
“I’m fine. Just starving.”
Tatiana immediately had food brought to her. As Tammy ate, she explained the delay. “He didn’t listen to me and got too close to something he shouldn’t have. A wolf almost snatched him. I had to chase them down; I’m exhausted.”
Tatiana thought she might be exaggerating, but once the technician woke up and launched into a tearful, frantic speech of gratitude, she realized it was all true.
Despite the close call, the mission was a success. The technician had successfully bypassed the communication interference. During the process, Ann and Hubert had even pitched in, contributing their custom–developed watches to be integrated with the new hardware.
Now, every member of the team wore a watch that provided GPS, communication, night vision, and scanning capabilities. With their preparations complete, they prepared to enter the jungle once more.
Tatiana stared into the dense forest, her gaze turning sharp. “Move out!”
Meanwhile, the underground base was a hive of activity.

As soon as the miasma cleared, it would be time for a major delivery. Max had to ensure the process went off without a hitch. He was personally overseeing the route, the weight of the cargo, and the coordination with his underground contacts. The product was already packed into crates and stacked neatly, ready for
transport.
Ginnie wanted to join the transport team. “No, it’s safer for you here.”
“Dad, I’ve been stuck in this hole for six months. I’m dying of boredom! Please let me go out! I promise I won’t wander off!”
Max softened. Despite his many women, Ginnie was his only child. “This trip is dangerous. I don’t like you being out there without protection.”
“I won’t be without protection! Tywin will protect me.”
“Are you two that close already?”
“Oh, Dad! You already promised! Are you making fun of me now?”
Max roared with laughter. “My daughter’s grown up. She sees a handsome man and forgets all about her old man.”
“Dad!”
“Alright, alright. Go call Tywin for me.”
It had been ten days since Jasper was brought to the base. In that time, his exceptional competence and intelligence had earned Max’s respect. Max kept him close for almost everything except the most core
secrets.
Max was also considering Ginnie’s interest in Tywin. He knew he wouldn’t have any more children, but Ginnie could. If she had children who took his surname, his legacy would continue. Why not him? Ginnie had never been interested in anyone before, so he wouldn’t let this chance slip. Besides, with the leverage he held, he wasn’t afraid of a betrayal from Tywin.
Jasper entered the room. “Tywin, sit. Have a few drinks with me.”
Jasper sat down, his gaze lingering on the bottle with a faint, hidden sharpness. He acted as though he knew nothing, clinking glasses with Max. After a few rounds, Max finally got to the point.
“In a few days, when the miasma clears, I’m taking a shipment out. You take Ginnie and come with me.”
Finally, a way out.
Jasper suppressed his surge of emotion and nodded calmly. “Understood.”
