Chapter 440 The Final Concession

The slender wrists were no longer marked by just a single scar; they were crisscrossed with layers of old and new traces of pain.
She had kept this secret hidden from everyone.
Lindsey watched as Tatiana wasted away–getting so thin it was impossible to ignore–and she abruptly cut their trip short to return to Bellwood. The moment they stepped through the doors, Tatiana collapsed. Panic surged through the household as she was rushed to the emergency room.
It was only then that Lindsey saw the mottled scars on her granddaughter’s wrists.
The old woman recoiled, stumbling back several steps in shock. She never imagined that Tatiana would resort to self–harm. She didn’t even know when it had begun. Looking at the jagged red welts across those wrists, Lindsey broke down in tears of pure agony.
She began to wonder if she had been wrong all along. Perhaps her interference had been the very thing pushing Tatiana over the edge.
“Tatiana… why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you say anything?”
In that moment of despair, Dr. Xander appeared once more. He handed the thick medical file to the old woman and told her the truth: the psychological torture Tatiana was enduring every single second was far more horrific than the physical act of slitting her wrists.
When Lindsey finally understood the full extent of the truth, she seemed to age ten years in an instant. She sat in a hollow daze for a long time, whispering to herself, “A cursed fate… it’s all just a cursed fate…”
When Tatiana finally woke up, she found her grandmother sitting by her side, looking at her with eyes full of tenderness and defeat.
“If you want to go,” Lindsey said softly, “then go.”
Tatiana froze.
“I’ll stay here. I’ll look after Ann and Hubert. You don’t need to worry about anything.”
Tatiana’s eyes slowly filled with moisture, and tears tracked down her temples, “Grandmother, I’m so
sorry…”
“Don’t say such foolish things. You haven’t done anything wrong. It’s I who should apologize; I had no idea you were carrying such a heavy burden for so long. Now, I won’t stop you anymore. Go and do what you
must.”
Tatiana sat up slowly and pulled her grandmother into a/sobbing embrace.
“I’ll come back safely. I promise you.”
Lindsey wept uncontrollably.
After being discharged, Tatiana immediately began her preparations. As it happened, Tammy had just finished her training and returned home; the moment she heard Tatiana was leaving, she packed her bags to

follow without a second thought. Knowing Tammy was going along gave Lindsey a significant sense of relief.
When Ann and Hubert realized their mommy was leaving again, they swarmed her, begging to be included.
“Mommy, we want to go too! Please take us with you!”
The children’s longing for their father was no less intense than Tatiana’s. They had been putting on a brave face, but deep down, they were desperate to find him. They looked up at her with pleading eyes.
Tatiana knelt and pulled them close. “You’re still too little to go. It’s far too dangerous there.”
They hung their heads, their little lips pouting in dejection.
“Mommy promises to video call you every day and keep you updated. We’ll stay in constant contact, okay?”
They were barely persuaded by the promise, sticking out their pinky fingers. “Pinky swear?”
“Yes, pinky swear.”
Once the children were settled, she prepared to depart. She didn’t take a massive entourage, choosing instead ten of the most elite fighters and survival specialists from her personal staff. They used the cover of being international jewelry merchants–a role that required little acting, given her business background.
Everything was ready. Target: Overseas.
Bang!
Max fired a single shot, killing the last man. His face was a mask of cold fury. “Drag him out.”
His subordinates moved with mechanical precision to clear the body, careful not to provoke Max while he was in such a volatile state. After all, their home base had been raided and dismantled; anyone would be livid. Since learning of the raid, Max had been a walking powder keg/ executing several men at the slightest provocation.
Because of the raid, they were forced to remain in the region. Fortunately, the latest shipment had been delivered without a hitch and the funds had cleared. What should have been a cause for celebration was overshadowed by the loss of their primary base.
Max couldn’t fathom how the tactical police had bypassed the high–magnetic field and the toxic miasma to find them. That single move had wiped out years of his hard work.
How could he not be furious? It meant starting from scratch.
Luckily, he still had a vast fortune. Max calmed himself and began thinking about how to rebuild his empire.
“Dad? Are you busy?”
Ginnie’s appearance made Max’s expression soften slightly. “What is it?”
