Upon hearing this, Max roared with laughter. I’ll take that as a compliment. Tywin, go check on Ginnie. The auspicious hour is approaching; don’t let her delay things.”

Understood.”

Just as Jasper was about to turn and leave, someone shouted, The Saint has arrived!

Almost every eye in the room turned toward the entrance. In this region, the status of a Saint was immense, second only to the high monks. The common people held them in deep reverence, and those of lower status would even prostrate themselves on the ground. While the guests present weren’t required to kneel, they all stood in respect to acknowledge her arrival.

Jasper’s gaze fixed on the figure being carried in on the palanquin. The more he looked, the more a strange, unsettling feeling grew within him. There was a powerful sense of familiarity.

The Saint was dressed in exotic red robes and a rounded headdress, her face completely obscured by a beaded veil. She was covered so thoroughly that only her eyes were visiblea pair of deep, emeraldgreen pupils.

She looks exactly likeTatiana.

When their eyes met, the Saint blinked. Her gaze was teasing, almost mocking, before she looked away. Jasper felt a violent jolt in his chest. It really was her.

How on earth had she become a Saint?

Max, oblivious to Jasper’s internal turmoil, let out a sigh of satisfaction. I paid a fortune to invite the purest Saint to witness your ceremony. This is a matter of great prestige in these parts.”

Jasper’s body felt rigid, his voice sounding forced as he repeated the words. To witnessthe ceremony?

Of course. Only with a Saint’s blessing will you and Ginnie have a long and prosperous life together.”

If that Saint was indeed Tatiana, then she was here to witness his wedding to another woman. Jasper felt a constriction in his throat, a wave of acute embarrassment washing over him.

At that moment, the Saint stepped down from the palanquin and walked toward them. Her gait was graceful and full of an exotic allure. She pressed her palms together and recited a mantra in a melodious voice. Her local dialect was flawless; there wasn’t a hint of an accent to give her away.

Max suspected nothing. He returned the greeting and introduced the groom, asking her to bestow good fortune upon him. Tatiana nodded with a faint smile and looked directly at Jasper. She made several ritualistic gestures with her hands, waving them in his.direction while chanting under her breath.

She was purely putting on a show for the outsiders. In reality, she was mumbling nonsense she couldn’t have repeated if she tried.

Max signaled a subordinate to bring over a thick red envelope and handed it to her. Thank you for your blessing, Saint.

Tatiana accepted the envelope without the slightest hesitation.

Please, Saint, take a moment to rest. The ceremony will begin shortly.

An attendant led her away. Before leaving, she shot a lingering, unreadable glance back at Jasper. She hadn’t said a word, yet it felt as if she had said everything. Jasper felt a cold chill run down his spine.

Tywin, go see Ginnie now. Give her a nudge.”

Yes.

He strode away toward the dressing room. Inside, Ginnie was dressed in the astronomical evening gown, her makeup heavy and elaborate. She looked exquisite and radiant. Hearing him enter, she turned with a joyful cry. Tywin! You’re here. Do I look beautiful?

She spun in a circle, the gemstoneencrusted skirt flaring out and shimmering brilliantly.

Very beautiful,he said, his voice devoid of any real emotion.

Ginnie’s eyes crinkled with happiness. She was completely consumed by her anticipation for the wedding. I originally thought it was just going to be an engagement, but Dad suddenly changed his mind and agreed to let us get married. This is our wedding day! I’m so nervousare you nervous?

The mission wasn’t over yet, so Jasper continued to play the role of the devoted lover. I’m not nervous. I’m looking forward to it.

Ginnie blushed, looking up at the man who was about to become her husband. Her heart raced; he was perfecthandsome, attentive, and capable. Thinking about their future life together, her excitement grew. She reached out to embrace him, resting her head against his chest.

Tywin, will you treat me well for the rest of your life?

I will. Tywin will treat you well for the rest of his life.

Tywin would. Jasper would not. Jasper had already found the person he intended to protect forever.

That’s wonderful. I’m so lucky that we met and are becoming husband and wife. She was truly infatuated with him.

It’s almost time. Are you ready?

Mhm! I have to go now; I’m walking in with my father.”

Alright. Go ahead.”

I’ll see you in a bit then.
