Even in Darkness She Chose to Rise (Tatiana and Jasper) novel Chapter 478

apter 478 The Spark That Ignites

A powerful urge flooded his mind along with the sudden eruption of desire.

It had been a long, long time since he had allowed himself any release. Since she had left, he had lost track of how long it had been. He had buried himself in work, finding endless tasks to numb the pain of her absence. Only in the quietest hours of the night would he wake from a vivid dream, feeling the hollow ache of loss and the persistent, uncontrollable hunger for her.

On rare occasions, he would let himself give in, catching the lingering scent of her on the clothes she had left behind, chasing that flecting, soaring peak. He hadn’t touched another soul but her. Now, under the weight of her gaze, he was losing control.

Seeing his lack of response, Tatiana grew impatient. She reached out and snatched his hand away from her face, reclaiming her sight. Then, she locked eyes with the beasthe hadn’t quite managed to tuck away.

Tatiana discreetly nudged herself back a few inches. A flicker of primal caution pierced through her alcoholic haze.

Watch yourself.”

Jasper took a deep breath and stood up. Forgive me. I need a moment.

With that, he turned and left. He had finished the drink Tatiana had mixed earlierthe one where she had accidentally added a double dose of a particularly potent tonic. He had drained the whole glass, and the effects were starting to take hold.

Tatiana watched his hurried departure, trying her best to ignore what she had just seen.

In the restroom, Jasper splashed his face with cold water. His hair, usually styled perfectly back, fell loose and damp over his forehead, partially veiling his eyes. After forcing the restlessness down, he looked into the mirror.

He saw a man disheveled by unsatisfied desire. He gave a selfdeprecating laugh. Jasper, to think you’d see a day like this.

Once he felt steady enough, he turned and walked back, transforming himself once more into the refined, noble gentleman. It was as if the fierce, predatory man from moments ago was merely an illusion.

However, when he stepped back into the private room, he froze. In just ten minutes, a pile of empty glasses had appeared on the table. Tatiana was leaning against the sofa, clutching a wine glass, halfconscious.

Tatiana.”

Hearing his voice, she slowly lifted her head. Her vision doubled. She saw twono, three Jaspers. She frowned. Stop shaking.”

I’m not shaking.

Jasper moved closer and sat beside her, reaching for the glass in her hand. That’s enough

She jerked her hand away, protecting her drink. Don’t steal it.”

She was comfortably tipsy, her fingertips swaying the glass gently. The amber liquid caught the light like melted honey. The alcohol had bolstered her courage; her eyes were rimmed with a faint red, and her gaze was fixed intently on him.

HeyShe suddenly leaned forward, poking his chest with a finger. Her voice was soft and syrupy. The drink you madedid you sneak something into it?

Jasper’s heart gave a violent thud. His voice went hoarse. I didn’t.

Liar. I saw it.

Saw what?

Her gaze drifted downward, landing on a specific spot. Jasper felt like he was about to explode. She was like fire; no matter where she touched, she set him ablaze, burning through his heart and soul. The impulse he had just suppressed came roaring back, stronger than before. He couldn’t push it down again.

Tatiana’s eyes crinkled with laughter. See? I saw it again.

She was truly drunk. Jasper knew he should take the glass away and force her home, but he couldn’t do it. His dark, obsidian eyes deepened as they reflected her drunken, charming state.

He lowered his head and let out a quiet, breathless laugh. He didn’t pull away as she moved closer; in fact, he remained still, letting her press almost entirely against him.

You added it. Did you do it on purpose?he asked, his low voice carrying a playful edge.

Yeah.

She admitted it boldly. She wasn’t illiterate; she knew exactly what the ingredients on the labels meant. She had done it intentionally.

Jasper swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing as his gaze darkened further. What did you

add?

Something to makeyour heart beat faster. She tilted her face up, her eyes misty. Her finger
