Chapter 480 Human Nature and Heartbreak

Sylvie’s voice rang out from beyond the door.

Tammy turned to look. “Sylvie!”

Sylvie was older than her, and as they spent more time together, Tammy had started calling her by name.

“What a coincidence! I brought this for you guys, just finished making them.”

It was a box of beautifully fried spring rolls, smelling absolutely divine.

“Whoa! They smell amazing!”

Tammy didn’t stand on ceremony; she eagerly took the box and grabbed a piece with her bare hands.

Norman helplessly handed her a fork. “Use a fork, don’t burn yourself.”

“Mmph! It’s fine, I’m not afraid of the heat! This is delicious! You try one too!”

As she spoke, Tammy picked up another piece and fed it to him. Norman didn’t mind at all and took a bite directly from her hand.

“They are indeed quite good.”

“Right? Sylvie’s a great cook! You should learn a thing or two from her!”

“Sure, when I have some free time.”

Norman didn’t feel that cooking was beneath him in the slightest and agreed readily.

Sylvie felt another pang of envy; this

young couple’s relationship was truly wonderful. But thinking of her own news, she smiled and said, “If you want to eat my cooking in the future, I’ll have to bring it down to you.”

Tammy caught the keyword immediately. “Down?”

Sylvie nodded. “Yes, my man finally saved up enough points yesterday to move three floors up.”

“Wow! Congratulations!”

Sylvie couldn’t help but boast a little. “I heard there’s a cafeteria up there, plus a gym and a café. The rooms are much bigger and very beautiful.”

Hearing this, Tammy turned to look at Norman. “I want to live up there too!”

Norman nodded seriously. “I’ll take you up there soon.”

Sylvie smiled. She hadn’t seen this handsome young man fight, but seeing how lean he was, she assumed his performance was likely average. She remarked, “Moving up isn’t easy. You either need a long winning streak or enough points. Opponents are assigned randomly; if you match with a top–tier fighter, you’ll lose. Winning streaks are hard to maintain–even those on the higher floors can’t guarantee them. Most people have to rely on grinding for points.”

These “points” acted like internal currency within the arena. After every match, a fighter received both prize money and points. A win carned points, but a loss where the fighter performed exceptionally well could also carn points based on the referee’s judgment.

Saving enough points could get you a better room or various other conveniences. It was a very mature system.

“My man saved for a long time to get enough. Don’t push yourself too hard, young

man.”

Knowing Sylvie meant well, Norman wasn’t offended. He simply smiled without explaining himself.

Tammy, however, wasn’t having it. she insisted, “My man is very strong, he can definitely do it!”

Having spent so much time together, she had become accustomed to calling him “my man.” Every time Norman heard it, he felt a wave of satisfaction wash over him. He couldn’t stop looking at her, liking her more with every glance.

Living together day and night, sharing a bed with such a beautiful wife–it was impossible for him not to have certain thoughts. He wasn’t a saint; he was a normal man with natural reactions that were hard to suppress.

Yet, he hadn’t made a move, settling for nothing more than a hug before sleep. He wasn’t some paragon of virtue; he simply hated this place. Something so beautiful shouldn’t happen in such a chaotic, squalid environment.

Unaware of his thoughts, Tammy chatted with Sylvie for a bit longer before watching her head back.

“Sylvie looks so happy! It looks like she’s moving on to a better life!”

Norman merely smiled, saying meaningfully, “Not necessarily.”

He could control his impulses, but not everyone could.

Tammy didn’t understand, but that very night, she was jolted awake by screams and crying from next door.
