To make matters worse, the gorillas were a protected species. You couldn’t touch them without the Animal Protection Association showing up the next day to cause a riot.
It was no wonder Winston looked like he wanted to skin them alive every time they were mentioned.
Even Ann and Hubert were frustrated, their little fists clenched tight. “Mommy, they’re so mean!”
“Getting hit by those rocks really hurts! There’s blood everywhere!”
Quite a few miners had been left with gruesome head wounds. Luckily, Tatiana had stationed a doctor on–site to treat the injured, but work had ground to a halt.
Those gorillas needed to be dealt with.
She found herself deeply missing her animal trainer, Tammy. Based on the calendar, it was almoste for their scheduled meeting. She made a split–second decision that they were

after they had left, they touched down in Hindersville.
The moment she stepped off the plane, her phone rang. It was Norman. His voice was raspy and exhausted. “Tatiana… Tammy is gone.”
Tatiana’s expression went cold. She didn’t even go home; she headed straight for Norman.
The second she saw him, she grabbed him by the collar. “You better tell me exactly what happened!”
Norman looked worse than she remembered. He was haggard, his eyes bloodshot with heavy dark circles. He was unshaven, and his expensive suit jacket was a wrinkled mess. He clearly hadn’t slept in days.
He gave her a bitter smile. “I can’t find her.”
“What did you do to her?”
“Would you believe me if I said I did nothing?”

In reality, Norman truly didn’t know what had gone wrong. He had simply returned to their quarters after a long meeting to find her missing. At first, he assumed she was out with friends. But when he saw that her favorite stuffed animal was gone from the bed, he knew something
was wrong.
He had checked with Sandra, who told him she hadn’t seen Tammy at all. But besides Sandra, did Tammy even have any other friends?
He had been so distracted lately dealing with the traitors in the Cole family. His old man had finally kicked the bucket, but he’d left behind a mountain of debt and a messy will, calling it a final test. The funeral and the fallout had kept Norman buried in work. He had finally cleared the chaos only to find his woman gone.
Their wedding was supposed to be in a few days. He had planned to tell her the whole truth on that day. Now, it was all falling apart.
When he first realized she was missing, he was anxious but not panicked. He figured she
couldn’t have gone far. She had no reason to leave him. Maybe she was just upset? He could fix that. He just had to find her.
But he couldn’t.
He had scoured every inch of the underground fighting circuit. Even Sandra said she couldn’t reach her. That was when the real panic set in.
In his desperate search, he realized how little he actually knew about her life. What did she do while he was training or fighting? Who else did she talk to? He had spent so much time trying to protect her by keeping her away from the violence of the ring that he had never bothered to understand her world. Now that she was gone, he didn’t even know where to start looking.
“Norman, did you forget what you promised me?”
Tatiana’s furious voice snapped him out of his self–loathing. He knew he was in the wrong didn’t even try to fight back.
and
“I’m sorry.”
Tatiana looked like she wanted to kill him. Only her logic held her back. She took a deep breath, her temper flaring. “I should never have trusted you. You don’t deserve her.”
Jasper stepped forward, placing a steadying hand on her shoulder. “Let’s find her first,” he said quietly.
“I know.” She turned back to Norman. “When and where was the last time you saw her?”
