Chapter 543 A Hollow Shell
Lucas was clearly agitated; his rage was palpable even through the phone.

Tatiana moved the receiver a few inches away from her ear. “Are you sure you aren’t the one hiding Tammy?”
“Tatiana, Norman is the one who lost her,” Lucas snapped, forcing his voice to stay steady. “Instead of grilling him, you’re interrogating me? I’m just as worried about her as you are!”
Tatiana didn’t argue. She hung up, her mind racing with doubt.
Jasper had been standing by quietly. Once she put the phone down, he asked, “You suspect him?”
“Yeah. He’s essentially the head of the Lund family now. They’re an old–money staple in Bellwood. If he really wanted to hide someone, it wouldn’t be hard.”
“Want me to look into him?”
ople tail him. The rest should keep searching for Tammy.”
It now. She regretted ever trusting that bastard Norman.
enough to keep his mouth shut. He didn’t try to make excuses for his friend. If t handle his own life, he was useless.
the other side of town, Lucas hung up the phone. He looked at the person sitting on the ofa across from him, his anger instantly melting into a gentle, cautious gaze.
“Tammy, don’t worry,” he said softly. “I won’t let them find you. You can stay here as long as you need.”
Tammy was curled up on the sofa with her knees pulled to her chest. She looked sickly and drained, a far cry from the energetic, vibrant girl she used to be. She was like a hollow shell that had lost its soul.
It hurt Lucas to see her like this. “Tammy? Are you okay?”
She blinked, coming back to reality. “I’m fine. I’m just a little hungry.”
“I’ll have some food sent over.”
Lucas was a disaster in the kitchen and almost never cooked. Since Tammy had been staying

there, he’d been ordering from a high–end private chef to keep things discreet.
Tammy picked at her food with a fork, taking small, distracted bites. Her mind drifted to Bovine’s cooking. It had been so many days since she’d tasted it. Suddenly, she lost her appetite.
Lucas noticed. “Is it not good? Do you want something else?”
She nodded.
“I’ll order from somewhere else then.”
She shook her head. “Do you know how to cook?”
Lucas looked a bit sheepish. “I can manage to get things hot, I guess.”
“Go try.”
“Alright. Just wait for me.”

He didn’t refuse. He rolled up his sleeves and headed into the kitchen. His movements were clumsy; it was obvious he was a stranger to the stove.
Tammy watched him from the doorway, her arms crossed.
Is this really the guy I used to like? A guy who can’t hunt or make food taste good?
She had her doubts, but the man had shown her tons of photos she had taken and things she had given him. She recognized her own handiwork from before she lost her memory. He told her her name was Tammy, not Flowie. He told her the person she loved most was named Lucas.
“When am I going to remember…” she muttered, tapping her head in frustration.
If she could just remember, maybe she could go back to the way she was. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt this much.
Bovine… no, Taven. Why did he lie to me?
Her memories drifted back to that day. From the moment she realized Taven was lying, she started watching him. She realized he had lied to her dozens of times. Training, fights, meetings and half the time he went out alone, it was a lie. When he disappeared, she could never find him.
Normally, her personality wouldn’t allow her to put up with that. She would have confronted him. But she had held back. She was waiting for him to come clean. She would have forgiven the deception if he’d just given her a reason she could believe.

But he never did. Instead, he showed her how much he despised her.
