“If he feels cornered, he’ll just move her. Don’t jump the gun.”

“Then what? I know she’s in there!”

“Tatiana, take a breath. You know Tammy. She’s tough. No one is getting the drop on her without a fight. If it’s been this quiet, it’s probably because she’s hiding on purpose.”

Jasper was right. Once Tatiana calmed down, she realized he had a point.

She dug into the original blueprints for the apartment and found the problem. The floor plan showed over three hundred square meters, but when her people looked at it, it only looked like two hundred.

Tatiana clapped slowly. “Nice act. You’re in the wrong business.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I don’t want to scare Tammy. Just bring her out.”

“You think she’s here?”

“I don’t think. I know.”

Tatiana stood up and walked over to him. Her eyes were ice cold. “It’s a nice place. But where’s the rest of the square footage?”

Lucas went stiff. Tatiana patted his shoulder. “Where is she?”

On the other side of the apartment, in a soundproofed room, Tammy had no idea what was going on. She was curled up on the sofa, staring at the TV.

The weight on Tatiana’s chest finally lifted the second she saw Tammy was safe.

“You… you…”

Tammy started stuttering. Her head started throbbing, like something was trying to claw its way out of her brain.

“Tammy, it’s me. Do you remember?”

Tammy shook her head and then nodded. She couldn’t get the words out right. “I don’t… no, I know you! You’re important! You’re really important! I’ll remember! I’m trying!”

She had amnesia, but her gut didn’t. She felt an overwhelming rush of trust and affection. Suddenly, she realized she didn’t care about Taven at all. She liked this woman way more.

Tatiana watched Tammy’s eyes light up, looking just like they used to.

“It’s okay. Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t matter if you remember or not, as long as you’re okay.”

Everything got a lot easier once they had Tammy back. Even without her memory, she trusted Tatiana completely and wouldn’t leave her side.

Eventually, Tatiana got the whole story out of her about why she was hiding. It sounded like Tammy had just misunderstood something. Also, that Taven guy’s cover was a joke. It only worked because Tammy didn’t know who she was.
