He just put his head down, feeling like an idiot. He knew he had no right to tell Tammy what to do. Even without her memory, she cared about Tatiana way more than him.

Tatiana didn’t waste time. She started making moves to get Tammy out of the city without Norman’s people noticing. She knew Norman was probably watching her every move, terrified she’d hide her.

Three days later, they were ready to go.

They were on the private jet and about to take off when Tatiana’s phone rang. No name on the screen, but she knew the number. She looked over at Tammy, who was busy with the kids, and picked up.

Norman sounded like he was losing his mind.

“Is she there? Is Tammy with you?”

“No.”

“Tatiana, don’t do this!”

“Do what?”

“Let me talk to her. Just one time. Please.”

“I gave you chances,” Tatiana said. “You’re the one who blew it.”

“I don’t even know what I did!”

Norman was practically screaming now, then his voice dropped into a plea. “Just a few minutes. Put her on. I just need to say two things.”

“Norman, stop acting like you care now. Think about what you did. Tammy didn’t just leave for no reason. She’s honest, and she hates being lied to. Think on that.”

Tatiana hung up and killed the power.

“Sit down,” she told the kids. “We’re leaving.”

Hubert and Ann got Tammy settled. They knew she didn’t remember them, so they had been working overtime to be her new best friends. It was working. Tammy already loved them. She was so focused on them she didn’t even have time to be sad.

Jasper leaned over. “He knows where we are.”

Tatiana didn’t care. “He’s too late.”

“He’s driving like a maniac to get here.”

Good. He needs to learn what it’s like to miss out.”

Tammy looked out the window. As the plane started moving, she froze.

A black Cayenne smashed right through the airport fence. It was flying down the runway, trying to catch up to the jet.

Tammy’s heart jumped. She pressed her face to the glass.

“Someone’s chasing us!” Hubert shouted.

Ann looked at Tammy. She knew exactly who it was.

Tammy just stared at the car. It looked pathetic, chasing a plane that was already gone.

Tatiana saw it too. “He’s crazier than you were.”

Jasper didn’t say a word.

Down on the tarmac, Norman had his foot to the floor. He wanted to fly. But he just had to watch the plane get further and further away. When the wheels went up and the jet hit the sky, he knew it was over.

He slammed his hands against the wheel and stopped the car, watching the plane disappear into the clouds.

“Tammy!”

“Tammy.”

Tatiana’s voice snapped her back. She saw the look in Tammy’s eyes before she could hide it.

“You okay?”

Tammy forced a smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.”

She turned back to the kids and started playing games again. Tatiana just sighed. She’d seen this before.

After a long flight, they landed in Westland. The city had a massive forest park that Tammy loved immediately. It was like a fish getting back into the ocean. She wasn’t going to miss the little pond she came from.

And Norman was definitely the little pond.

“Anything?”
