Chapter 559 Evidence of Evil

Could he really have tracked them all the way here?

“Mommy! It’s open!”

Everyone’s attention snapped toward the screen.

As Hubert clicked, the files expanded. Rows of dense figures and project names filled the display. At first, it looked like standard animal rescue spending, but the further they scrolled, the more suspicious the money trail became. Massive sums were being funneled into offshore shell companies under the name Special Species Conservation, with the final destination completely obscured.

Another file labeled Experimental Records was even more disturbing. It was a detailed log of illegal gene editing and high–risk virus experiments. The subjects ranged from endangered species to stray cats and dogs snatched off the street. The failed samples were coldly marked as destroyed or discarded.

It was enough to make everyone’s stomach turn.

Hubert’s face went pale as he kept scrolling. He opened a folder named Tributes, and a chill went down everyone’s spine. Inside were videos of officials and wealthy businessmen interacting with what were labeled as special merchandise. The background was clearly several front organizations owned by the Association.

Hubert clicked an unnamed video file ending in final.

The footage was shaky and was clearly a hidden recording. The scene was a luxury study. The Association’s Vice President, Borris, had his back to the camera. He was on the phone, and even though the voice on the other end was distorted, the conversation was clear.

“…Get rid of that evidence. Treat it like a traitor. The Association cannot have a single stain on its reputation.”

Borris’s voice was chillingly calm. “The new merchandise arrives tonight. The regulars are getting impatient. Remember, they aren’t just animals. They’re the keys to power and greed.”

At the end of the video, Borris turned around. The camera caught a satisfied smirk as he played with a strange badge, a symbol reserved only for the top leadership.

The screen cut to black.

Silence fell over the room.

Hubert opened the most recent files, which were full of detailed data on animal experiments. Just like they suspected, someone had developed a drug to control animal brains. The experiments were brutal; they didn’t treat these animals like living things at all.

Tatiana closed the video, making sure Hubert and Ann couldn’t see any more.

Further down were data reports and logs of actual operations. They had already used animals to stage accidents all over the world. Sometimes they were paid hits; other times, like with this mine, they used the chaos to crash the price and buy it up for nothing.

Their theory was officially confirmed.

Xavier slumped into his chair, cold sweat soaking through his shirt. The air in the room felt heavy. He realized that the evidence Icarus died for didn’t just expose corruptionit, pointed to a massive, dark network, and Borris, the man he used to look up to, was right in the middle of it.

Hubert backed up the data immediately, terrified something might happen to it.

As the shock wore off, the mood turned grim. Right then, the news came on the TV. It was about the bar shooting. The only person confirmed dead was Xavier’s colleague, Icarus. The police were calling it a random terrorist attack and closing the case.

But after seeing what was on that USB, no one believed that. This was a cover–up. The Association knew Icarus had the evidence and they killed him for it. Xavier was on that list too.

Tatiana rubbed her temples. “They’re coming for you.”

Xavier went cold. Then he suddenly stood up, fists tight. “I’m going to expose them! I’m going to the press right now!”

He started for the door, but Jasper stopped him. Jasper put a hand on his shoulder with a grip so strong Xavier couldn’t move. “You hand that over, and that evidence goes straight back to them. And you’ll be dead by morning.”

Xavier’s face turned even whiter.

Tatiana sighed. “Xavier, Jasper’s right. You don’t build an empire this big without paying people off. You aren’t the first person to find this out. Why do you think they’re still in business?”

Xavier stumbled back. “How could this happen…”
