Just as she thought this, her phone vibrated. It was Jasper. Even through the phone, his voice sounded tense.

“Are you all right? Did they stop you? I will send someone to pick you up!”

“It is fine. Do not come. We are okay.”

She explained her little trick to him, and Jasper finally calmed down. She could hear a dry laugh from his end. “I am sorry. I dragged you into this again.”

Tatiana hated hearing that. “Do not say that. How is the situation on your end?”

“Constant surveillance.”

“So, this call…”

“Yes.”

It was being monitored. Tatiana held back most of what she wanted to say and settled for one thing. “Do not worry about us for now. Once we are settled, I will come see you.”

After hanging up, she met the worried gazes of Ann and Hubert. She comforted them. “Mommy is here. Do not be afraid.”

Before returning, she had hired an agent to buy a house in a prime location. It was expensive, but the security was top notch. It was the perfect place to stay hidden.

Later, she received a call from Echo. He asked if she needed any help and promised to do what he could. Tatiana did not hold back. She asked if they could step in regarding the Jackson family.

Unfortunately, this was something no one could easily touch. Echo apologized sincerely over the phone. “A special task force is handling this now. We cannot interfere.”

He hinted that the case involved several powerful figures and warned her not to get involved. He said it would be nothing but trouble.

Tatiana did not give him an answer. After hanging up, she began planning her next move. It was clearly a setup. Someone wanted to destroy the Jackson family and chose the worst possible crime to do it. Online, people were being paid to spread lies and stir up hate.

However, Tatiana did not expect that seeing Jasper would be harder than she thought. She rubbed her temples, realizing he was avoiding a meeting because he did not want her to get caught in the crossfire.

She thought about it for a while. If he would not come to her, she would go to him.

Gordon was nothing but skin and bones. He looked like he was at death’s door. A bowl of cold soup sat untouched by his bed. He had no appetite and could barely swallow.

Hearing footsteps, Gordon did not even look up. “Leave,” he said weakly. “I am not hungry. Do not bother me.”

The footsteps did not stop. Instead, they moved closer. The sound of small shoes clicking on the floor was unmistakable.

Gordon finally turned his head. “I told you I do not…”

He stopped mid sentence. His eyes widened with shock and disbelief. “Hubert?”

“Great grandpa!”

Hubert rushed toward him. But when he saw how frail Gordon looked, he stopped himself, afraid he might hurt him.

“Hubert… come here. Come to me.”

Gordon was ecstatic. The weakness seemed to vanish as he sat up in bed, looking more alive than he had in days. Hubert finally threw himself into Gordon’s arms.

“I missed you so much!”

Gordon was in tears as he hugged Hubert. “My precious boy… I finally get to see you. You have grown so tall!”

Hubert wiped his eyes. “I came to see you, and someone else is here too!”
