Even in arkness, Shc Chose to Rise

Chapter 600 The Anonymous Gift

“Grandpa! You seriously want to take that thing out on the road?”

“Well, why not? It’s… alright, fine. I get it. Too dangerous!”

Under Tatiana’s look, Gordon backed down like a kid caught breaking a window. He didn’t argue. He just took the lecture.

Tatiana didn’t let up until Hubert promised to strip the wheelchair back to its factory settings. That gift was a heart attack waiting to happen.

Ann stood to the side, stifling a laugh.

Then it was her turn. Her gift was much smaller, something she could carry in her hands.

“Look, Grandpa!”

She pulled off the cover to reveal a birdcage. Inside was a stunning parrot. The second it saw them, it chirped, “Hello! Hello!”

The voice was a perfect match for Ann’s.

Gordon’s eyes widened. “The damn thing sounds just like you!”

“Hello! Hello! Happy birthday, Grandpa! I hope you live a long, healthy life! Stay happy, stay young, and may everything go your way! Here’s to many more!”

The blessings poured out of the bird’s beak one after another. It was a total hit. Ann had clearly spent weeks coaching the thing word for word, which was why it had her exact inflection.

The old man was obsessed. He started playing with the bird and realized it could actually talk back. It was sharp as a whip.

“Her name is Peach, Grandpa,” Ann said. “She’ll be there to talk to you whenever you’re lonely.”

Gordon was genuinely touched. The money didn’t matter. It was the fact that the kid had put in that much

t effort.

Even Hubert threw up his hands. “Wow, okay. That bird is a genius. You win this round. Sis. I’m out.

Ann shook her head. “Your wheelchair was cool too. I know how much work you put into it. Grandpa loved it’

Just as Tatiana figured. Gordon wasn’t picking favorites. He loved then both so much he couldn’t stop. grinning.

Then Tatiana banded over her gift. It was a cane.

Resting on a gold stand, the thing looked like it belonged in a museum. The shaft was deep, dork sandalwood, polished until it had a metallic glow. The grain looked like smoke trapped in wood. It was heavy, solid, and clearly expensive.

Chapter 608 The Anonymous Gift

The handle was a hawk’s head carved from solid gold. The beak was a single piece of black obsidian, and the eyes were two tiny, piercing sapphires.

Tatiana had paid a fortune for a custom craftsman to make this. It was a masterpiece.

Gordon took it for a spin. It fit his hand perfectly. “Good. This is good stuff,” he muttered over and over.

“I’m glad you like it.”

Gordon looked at her, then at the kids, and his eyes started to well up. He looked away, embarrassed.

“Thank you, Tatiana.”

He’d really thought that with the Jackson family’s collapse, he was just a useless old man waiting to die. He never expected them to care this much, let alone nail his taste so perfectly.

How the hell did Jasper get so lucky with a family like this? That idiot grandson of his better realize what

he has.

Ann ran over and hugged him. “Don’t cry, Great-Grandpa. It’s all going to be okay.”

“Yeah. It’ll be fine. Everything’s fine.”

The meal left Gordon looking ten years younger. He couldn’t stop smiling.

As they were getting ready to leave, a server pushed in one more cart under a black cloth.

Gordon blinked. “Tatiana? You got me something else?”

Tatiana shook her head. “No. I’m done.”

“Then who…”

She turned to the waiter. “Is this a mistake?”

“No, Ma’am. It was delivered with the other gifts. It’s for your party.”
