Dorian leaned lazily against the car door, tall and sharp edged, exuding a subtle sense of danger. He called out, “Arden, Come here.” But his eyes were fixed on Vincent.
“Mr. Vale? What are you doing here?” Arden looked up while sipping her milk tea.
Mr. Vale. That’s what she called him. But she’d called Vincent brother.
“I said, come here.”
Arden glanced at him in confusion, then turned toward the hotel, ready to say goodbye to Vincent. Dorian’s patience snapped the moment she turned back to Vincent again. Hands in his pockets, he walked straight toward them.
Vincent saw the tension radiating off him and instinctively stepped in front of Arden. Dorian’s eyes went even colder. “Vincent,” he said sharply, “you think Arden needs you to protect her?”
I’ve been protecting her since we were kids. It’s habit.”
Dorian sneered. “Haven’t seen her in years, and now you think you’re close again?”
The air thickened between them, neither backing down. Arden caught the look in Dorian’s eyes. It reminded her of the time he had his bodyguards beat Vincent outside the office.
She was still standing behind Vincent, but now she stepped forward, glancing around to see if Dorian had brought anyone with him.
Dorian’s gaze dropped to her, registering how she stood in front of Vincent, protective. His chest tightened with rage. He narrowed his eyes. “You’re standing up for him?”
“Dorian, don’t do anything crazy.”
He closed the distance in two steps, staring her down as he grabbed her wrist. With a sharp tug, he pulled her to his side and looked straight at Vincent. “She’s mine,” he said coldly. “So stay away from her.”
Just like that, he marked his territory. “You’re hurting her. Let go,” Vincent said, visibly tense.
Arden quickly spoke up, “Vincent, I’m fine. Just go.”
The last thing she needed was for Dorian to call in his guards and start another fight.
Vincent looked unsure, his gaze flicking to Dorian, who looked seconds away from exploding.
Dorian wrapped his arm around Arden’s waist, pulling her closer. A cigarette dangled between his fingers as smoke curled in the air.
His voice was ice. “Leave.”
Seeing that Dorian was losing control again, Arden grew anxious. “Vincent, please. Just go.”
Dorian lowered his head slightly, looking at the woman beside him. His grip on her waist tightened, his voice dropping lower. “Say his name one more time, Arden,” he warned. “Say it again, and I’ll break his legs.”
Arden glared up at him. “Why are you so controlling?”

Dorian didn’t respond. He just stared at Vincent, his patience completely gone. “Get out,” he snapped.
Vincent didn’t want to escalate anything further. He looked at Arden and said, “I’ll head back.”
“Text me when you get home,” she replied.
Dorian’s face turned colder. “Don’t you dare message her.”
Vincent ignored him. He got in the car, shifted into reverse, and drove off–but not before glancing one last time at Arden through the window.
Then his eyes dropped to the arm wrapped around her waist. His hand tightened on the wheel as he pulled
away.
Arden immediately stomped on Dorian’s foot and yanked herself free, storming back toward the hotel. Dorian followed. “Why didn’t you answer my call?”
“I didn’t check my phone.”
“Right. Spent the whole night with Vincent, didn’t you?”
“Yeah.”
Dorian felt like he was going insane. “I messaged you this morning. Told you I was taking you to dinner. Why didn’t you show up?”
Arden didn’t even look at him. She stormed off faster. “Because I didn’t want to.”
Near the elevator, she tossed her empty drink into a trash can and waited for the doors to open.
Dorian caught up behind her. He was fuming. Still, he stared at the back of her head. “I haven’t eaten yet.”
Arden didn’t respond. Seriously? A powerful CEO starving
He tried again. “I’m really hungry.”
She didn’t budge. The elevator arrived. Arden walked in and moved to the back. Dorian stepped in after her, standing directly in front of her, his height casting a shadow.
“I said I’m hungry, Arden. Did you hear me?”
“I heard.”
And that was it. Dorian felt like he was torturing himself at this point. “You’re my assistant.”
Arden finally looked up at him. “Then what would you like to eat, Mr. Vale?”
“What did you eat tonight?”
“Fish. Want some?”
Dorian gave a soft hum. “Eat with me.”
Arden immediately pulled out her phone and called Lucien, “Mr. Vale’s still hungry. Have them send fish, and chicken soup to his room.”
