Chapter 134 Hearts
Ares understood better iling anyone. They were walking she same fightrope
He gave Dorian a hard pat on the shoulder. Admit it, you like her
Dorian didn’t respond. Ares let out a low chuckle. “Arde’s got some fire. Getting involved with you? Feels like throwing her straight into the lion’s den. Just don’t tear her apart, yeal?”
Dorian adjusted his cuff. He looked at the lights glowing inside the villa. Still didn’t deny it.
“If you’re serious about her,” Ares said, “lose that frosty attitude. Try not to scare the girl off.”
Dorian pulled out a cigarette and offered Ares one. “Say the guy who’s still single. At least I have a wife.”
Ares lit them both. Took a long drag. “Single’s good. Notes. No weakness.”
Dorian took a slow drag and exhaled a thin stream of smoke. He knew exactly why Ares never got involved -the guy was ice–cold, impossible to read.
But then he remembered the last time they were all at the club. That woman, Ruby–wild, wide–eyed, totally into him. She looked at Ares like he was the only guy in the room.
She’d chased him for six years. And Ares had stonewalled her every step of the way.
“You don’t give Ruby a shot because of that?” Dorian asked.
Ares flicked ash from his cigarette. “She’s a good girl. I’m not the guy for her.”
Dorian raised a brow. “You’re telling me you haven’t noticed the way she looks at you?”
Ares said nothing. Dorian didn’t press. He had his own mess to sort out. He wasn’t exactly qualified to give relationship advice.
Arden was the first woman he’d ever really been with. And once he had her, he couldn’t stop thinking about
her.
She wasn’t just beautiful. She was kind, pure, full of light. The surprised him.

He took the gift Lucien had prepared and handed it to Ares. “Tell your grandfather happy birthday for me.”
Ares accepted it with a nod. “Come on. Your boys from Avalen are all inside waiting.”
Dorian stubbed out his cigarette, smoothed down his sleeves, and walked into the house.
The Sinclairs were an old–money family with a military background. The grandfather had raised more than a few top brass–generals, politicians, you name it.
It wasn’t even 7 p.m. yet, and the place was already packed.
Events like this were prime hunting ground for socialites and heiresses looking to marry into power. Everyone came dressed to kill. The women in gowns. The men in tailored suits.
The Sinclair estate looked more like a palace—gold chandeliers, white marble floors, servers in tuxedos passing out wine and hors d’oeuvres.

Dorian tilted his head, eyes drifting toward the grand staircase: People were chatting upstairs, drinks in hand. bis Arden wasn’t among them either.
He was about to head up when… “Mr. Vale.”
A woman’s voice, high–pitched and soft, floated over to him, and he turned to see Lacey in white, sugary sweet like always.
Dorian’s face gave nothing away. One hand in his pocket, his voice quiet. “Something you need?”
She hesitated under the weight of his gaze. But seeing that he was alone gave her a flicker of hope. “Are you here solo tonight?”
“I’m not.”
He turned to leave. “Wait. Could I be your date then? There’s a dancing portion later. Would you save me a dance?”
