“She came with me,” Caleb said, his tone sharp. “Got a blem with that, Mr. Vale?
That wasn’t what Dorian expected. But if it meant there wasn’t another guy in the picture, his mond instantly improved.
“She could’ve just said so.”
Caleb gave a dry laugh. “Yeah, and if I hadn’t shown up, what exactly were you planning to do?”
“Flirting,” Dorian said without hesitation. “Pretty normal between husband and wife, right? Or do you police that too?”
Arden glared at him. “Dorian! Have some self–respect.”
He looked at her, watching her long lashes flutter in frustration. He found it… oddly entertaining.
Caleb shook his head, stunned. “God, you’re unbelievable.”
He turned to Arden. “Come on. We’re leaving.”
“Okay.”
Neither of them gave Dorian another glance as they walked off. He rubbed his thumb over his lip, shoved a hand into his pocket, and casually followed them out.
“Where are we headed, Arden? Dance floor’s opening soon. You’re dancing with me.”
The whole reason Ares‘ grandfather, Harold Sinclair was throwing this massive birthday bash? To find Ares a wife.
So he’d made sure there’d be dancing, drinking, everything modern and social.
Ares was brilliant–ambitious like his grandfather, impossible to read, and still single at 26.
Harold was desperate for him to settle down. Maybe even give him a great–grandkid.
But Ares? Untouchable. So Harold decided to grease the wheels himself.
“I don’t dance,” Arden said flatly.
Dorian followed close behind, watching her hips shift in those heels. There was something fierce and sexy about it. “I do. I’ll teach you.”
They’d barely stepped out when Lacey appeared, heading straight toward them. “Mr. Vale.”

That last time at the auction? Public humiliation. For no reason. She had no beef with Lacey Just Larry had clearly chosen to create one.
Dorian narrowed his eyes at Lacey, who suddenly looked a little unsure of herself.
“What now?” he asked, checking his watch. It was after seven. Cassian and the others should’ve arrived by
now.
His tone turned icy. Lacey’s confidence cracked. “I–I just wanted to say hi.”
But Dorian saw Arden start to walk off. Her expression tight. Annoyed. He called out, “Where you going Arden?”
Lacey followed his gaze,
And saw her. Red dress. Bare shoulders. That rare balance of softness and strength. Skin glowing like silk under the lights.
Arden looked like she belonged in the pages of a magazine–spoiled by wealth, untouched by the world.
And Lacey hated it. Hated how perfect she looked. Hated how Dorian’s eyes never left her.
“Miss Wynn, you’re here too?”
Lacey’s tone was sweet. Her dress was white and innocent.
Dorian’s eyes narrowed. This woman again.
Arden lifted her gaze lazily. “Planning to try the same tricks again, Miss Wren?”
Lacey’s eyes welled up instantly. “Why would you say that? Last time it was you who pushed me.“.
Arden stared at her. Couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
Some people really would throw anyone under the bus for attention.
She clenched her fists, about to reply… But Dorian beat her to it.
“Really?” His voice dropped. “So you’re doing this again?
He stepped in front of Arden, staring Lacey down. “You said she pushed you?” he asked slowly. “Say it again.”
There was murder in his eyes. Lacey froze. She thought he’d take her side again–like last time.
She thought being his so–called ‘savior‘ gave her immunity.
“Mr. Vale… I’m just telling the truth.”
Dorian let out a short laugh. “Truth?” he echoed.
