Once he had a rough idea, he pulled up a contact from his phone.

The call connected. The person on the other end yawned repeatedly, then spoke impatiently, “Dude, do you know it’s 4 AM here?”

Jethro rested his forehead on his hand, smiling faintly, “I know.”

The voice on the other end exploded. “Then why the hell are you calling?! I’ll come after you even if I have to crawl through the screen!”

Jethro’s lips curled lazily, unfazed. “Need your help.”

“Spit it out!”

Jethro briefly explained the situation, ending with, “You should be able to reverse–track the culprit through the logs, right?”

A long silence followed.

Jethro frowned. “Aren’t you the self–proclaimed world’s top hacker? Can’t even handle this?”

A thunderous scream came through the phone.

“Jethro! Why use a cannon to kill a mosquito?! You drag me out of a beautiful dream at 4 AM for this crap?!”

Jethro held the phone away from his ear until the yelling stopped, then rubbed his ear, chuckling.

“As long as you can do it. I’ll send the details to your email. Good night.”

But some people were destined for a sleepless night.

Mia had been anxious all day. Even though she’d successfully talked everyone out of calling the police, her heart was still in her throat.

Now, she tossed and turned in her dorm room, unable to sleep.

All the stolen source code and data were still saved.

Not with her, of course.

Since the system logs on all the lab computers were wiped, she wasn’t worried about leaving traces.

They were all great coders, but their knowledge of hardware and cybersecurity was far inferior to hers.

That’s why Alistair had accepted her–to cover the team’s weakness.

This time, she’d just teamed up briefly with an overseas hacking group and easily gotten what she wanted,

But this stuff was a ticking time bomb. The longer it existed, the more danger she was in.

Thinking this, Mia got out of bed. She was about to contact the overseas group to delete everything.

Just then, Zora called.

Mia took the phone, slipping into the hallway to answer quietly. “Hello, Dr. Moss.”

Zora got straight to the point. “Where is the source code and data?”

Mia was taken aback. “With the overseas hacking group. I’ll have them delete it all, no traces. No one will know it was us.”

But Zora had other ideas. “Send me the source code and data for Darcy’s two patents. You can do whatever you want with the rest.”

Mia didn’t understand. “What do you want to do?”

A bad hunch flared, sirens blaring in her head. “You’re not planning to use it to apply for the patent yourself, are you? I just convinced her not to call the police! If you rashly use her work, she’ll definitely figure out it was us!”

Zora scoffed inwardly. Us? It was all you. I know nothing.

But outwardly, she reassured her, “Relax, I’m not that stupid. I just want to keep it as a trophy. A woman like Darcy—flirty and rotten to the core–finally under our heel? I’m just thrilled. Aren’t you happy, Mia? Her patents are gone. She has no reason to come to the lab anymore. Bram will have eyes only for you.”

At the mention of Bram, Mia’s cheeks warmed.

That was good news.

But still-

Mia swallowed, still uneasy. “Are you sure that’s all?”

“Mia, the Dean mentioned you’re outstanding. He plans to offer you a position here after graduation.”

Mia was overwhelmed by the sudden good news, throwing caution to the wind. “Thank you so much, Dr. Moss! Of course I believe you.”

Zora’s red lips curved. “Once this is done, let’s stop contacting each other. And delete every trace of our past messages.”

Hanging up, Zora, as she always did, erased all traces.

Behind her, the door to a private room at Paradise Club opened.
