Arden thought of Talia, Clark, and Sienna and shook her head. “It’s been fine. I’m new, just trying to learn from everyone,”
They arrived at the restaurant not long after. The moment they stepped inside, Vincent spotted them from a window–side table and waved them over.
He stood as they approached, pulled out Arden’s chair, and called a server over. “Can we get a warm milk for her?”
Then he turned to her. “Just got off work?”
“Yeah. Vincent, hope we didn’t keep you waiting?”
“Not at all. I just got here too.”
Vincent looked especially polished tonight. Crisp white dress shirt, tailored black pants, a tie- clearly dressed to impress.
Caleb raised an eyebrow. “Still remember her drink order, huh?”
“Of course I do.”
He slid the menu to Arden. “Pick whatever you like.”
Arden set her bag down, then gently pushed the menu back. “Vincent, tonight’s to thank you for helping release that video. You flipped public opinion completely. You pick.”
Vincent glanced at Caleb. “You have any preferences?”
“I’m easy.”
Vincent marked a few dishes–every single one something Arden used to love–then passed the menu back. “Take a look, let me know if there’s anything you want to add.”
Arden and Caleb leaned in together. Everything looked great. Since it was a thank–you dinner, they added a few fancier dishes and handed the menu to the server.
Once the order was in, Caleb excused himself to the bathroom, leaving Arden and Vincent alone at the table.
In the center was a vase filled with red roses in full bloom.

Every other table had yellow ones. Dorian and Cassian had just stepped into the restaurant. Cassian spotted Arden instantly.
“Well, well. Isn’t that Arden?”
Dorian was grabbing their membership card from the host. He glanced toward the dining area –and saw Arden immediately.
She was facing the door, chatting with the man across from her, smiling, her dimples showing. She looked calm, happy, sweet.
Cassian clocked Vincent from behind. Designer suit, expensive watch. The guy looked like a real catch.
He let out a low whistle. “Looks like Arden’s got herself a dinner date. Not bad. You know the guy?”
“Maybe she got tired of you,” he teased. “Thought she’d try something new.”
Dorian’s eyes narrowed. His whole expression turned ice–cold. Collar open, sleeves casually rolled, one hand in his pocket, he gave off that signature sharp, untouchable air.
“Book the table next to them,” he said.
The tables were separated by elegant flower dividers. From the next one over, you could hear but not easily see.
Cassian raised a brow. “Really? You wanna eavesdrop now?”
Dorian shot him a look. Said nothing. They had just come from a meeting about a major land acquisition, and this place was supposed to be their dinner spot.
Funny. Arden had said she was with Caleb. Now here she was with Vincent.
His expression darkened further. Cassian could feel the shift. “Wait, are you jealous right now?” he asked.
“Why would I be jealous?”
“Then why do you look like you’re ready to kill someone? There are plenty of open tables.”
Dorian was already walking over. Cassian sighed and followed. They sat down–Dorian directly behind Arden. Cassian across from him.
From where they were, they could hear everything. Vincent asked, “How have you been these years?”

“I’m good. What about you? Ever since you moved to Eloria, we kind of lost touch.”

Just then, the server returned with her warm milk. Vincent pushed it toward her. “I remember you always liked this. Have some?”
“Thanks.”
She took the glass, smiling. “How’s your family doing?” she asked.
Back then, Vincent’s family had gone bankrupt. To avoid their debt collectors, they moved away and basically vanished.
“We’re doing better. We’ve established ourselves in Eloria. Now we’re planning to move some operations to Avalen.”
Vincent’s gaze burned into hers. “So you just graduated college?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
That was it. Dorian stood up, walked straight over, pulled out the chair next to Arden and sat down.
“She’s taken,” he said flatly. “She already has someone she loves.”
Arden turned, stunned. “…Mr. Vale? What are you doing here?”
He didn’t answer. Just reached out and tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear. The motion was slow, familiar–way too intimate.
“Mr. Vale?” he repeated, his tone low and mocking. “That what you’re calling me now?” He said the name like he was chewing glass.
