Chapter 99 We’re Still Married, Aren’t We?

Then why do you look so wiped out?

Arden glanced at him. He was tall, broadshouldered, and clearly full of energy. She didn’t bother responding and just followed behind him.

Outside the airport, Lucien pulled up in a sleek black Hummer and grabbed Dorian’s duffel bag.

Mr. Vale, the car’s ready. We’re heading to the Intervia Hotel.”

Arden was just about to get in when a voice called out behind them.

Dorian!

Ugh. That tone-Dorian.So familiar.

Without pausing, Arden ducked into the backseat. Dorian’s expression soured. His brow furrowed. You couldn’t let the driver pick you up? What are you doing here?

It’s rush hour. Traffic’s a nightmare,” Mira said sweetly. Can I catch a ride with you?

Dorian stood by the open door, one arm braced on the roof. His tone was ice. No. We’re not heading the same way.”

He slid into the car and slammed the door shut. Lucien, are you waiting to chauffeur her too?

Lucien cleared his throat. No, sir. I only serve you and Ms. Vale.

Lucien,” Arden cut in, just call me Arden. That is a mouthful.

Lucien’s forehead started to sweat. He started the engine, glancing at the rearview mirror. His boss’s jaw was tight, lips pressed into a thin line. Yeah, he looked real happy.

Arden buckled her seatbelt. She’d grown used to Dorian being cold and distant. He’d always hated their marriage, hated her. She’d finally stopped hoping for anything from him.

And once you stop caring, life gets a lot easier. The drive to the Intervia Hotel was quiet. Lucien went to the front desk to get their keys.

In the elevator, Arden turned to Lucien. Which floor am I on? Just give me the room number and key.

Lucien glanced at his boss, hesitating. Mrs. ValeYou and Mr. Vale are sharing a suite. The Presidential Suite.

What?!Arden blinked. I’m staying with him?

Lucien nodded. Her voice shot up, full of disbelief. Dorian calmly rolled his sleeves. We’re married. What’s

he problem?

She

spun to press the elevator button. I’ll get my own room. No way I’m staying with you.

happen?

Dorian blocked the panel, gazing down at her. Arden, we’re still husband and wife.”

Finished

Technically, yes. Emotionally? We’re filing for divorce, Mr. Vale. You really think this arrangement makes sense?

He brushed his fingers across her hand. Her skin was soft, delicate. His throat bobbed. His eyes dropped to her lips. I think it makes a lot of sense.

She jerked her hand back. He clenched his fist, the warmth of her skin already gone, but the sensation still lingered.

I’ll book a regular room on my own,she said.

Seeing she wasn’t backing down, Dorian sighed and handed her a keycard. You can stay across the hall.”

Arden took it, relieved. As long as it’s not the same room, fine by me.”

That ease in her expression made something twist in his chest. His face darkened. Upstairs, she unlocked her door without sparing him a glance. Just as she was about to close it, he caught it with his hand.

You’re coming with me to dinner tonight. Seven o’clock. You can rest for an hour first.”

She nodded. Okay.”

He looked her over. You hungry?

No.

She pushed the door again. He didn’t move his hand. Tall and casually leaning in, Dorian gave her a lazy smile. Arden, I’m still your boss.

Arden gave him a dazzling, plastic smile. Boss, are you hungry? Should I order something for you?

Thirsty? Coffee, juice, sparkling water?

Jet lagged? Need a nap?

Maybe a bath? I can run the water for you.”

Dorian blinked. Her grin widened. Since you’re not saying anything, I’ll assume you’re good. I’m gonna shower now. Mind moving your hand, boss?”

Lucien turned away, stifling a laugh. Honestly? His boss kind of deserved it.

Dorian finally pulled his hand back. Don’t go out without telling me. Call if you need anything.

The door shut in his face. Dorian turned and went into his own room. He handed Lucien a list of Arden’s clothing sizes. Have someone bring over some outfits.

ucien nodded and left to handle it. Dorian showered, but didn’t rest. He opened his laptop and dove

aight into work.

Just then, his phone rang. It was Boey. His accent was thick. Boss.

Dorian leaned back in his chair, one leg crossed over the other. Talk.”
