Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 121

Chapter 121

Third Person’s PQV

Seraphina had no idea where this sudden mood swing of Mortimer’s was coming from.

She was about to tell him to order for himself, but he beat her to it. “Grandfather is alone in the dining room. I need to get back to him,” he muttered.

Before she could blink, he turned and strode away, his long legs moving so fast it looked like he was fleeing a crime scene.

Seraphina stood there under the waiter’s expectant gaze. She checked her annoyance and added a few more complex, high-end dishes to the order.

It was a matter of etiquette-no matter how much she wanted to throw a glass of water in Mortimer’s face, she would always maintain a flawless front for the elders.

“That’s all. Make it quick.”

“Of course, ma’am. I’ll ensure the freshness is peak.”

Seraphina didn’t rush back. She took her time, returning to the room only when she was ready.

Mortimer was sitting next to Edwin, looking like a high-ranking lieutenant getting a lecture from a Genèral.

But the second Seraphina walked in, Edwin’s hard Alpha mask dissolved into a doting smile. The shift was so fast it made Mortimer’s jaw tighten-the old man clearly had two very different faces for the two of them.

“Sera, all set?”

“Yes, Grandfather. I picked out some fresh items. I hope you’re hungry.” She took the seat to Edwin’s left.

Mortimer’s gaze followed her like a dark, silent shadow. His throat moved as he swallowed a remark, staying quiet.

Edwin was in a rare mood. “If Sera picked it, I’ll love it.” He let out a deep, booming laugh.

“The company should be winding down for the holidays soon, right?” Edwin asked, shifting his focus to Mortimer.

Mortimer pulled his eyes away from Seraphina’s profile. “Yes. After the year-end gala, the out-of-town members will start heading back for the Solstice and Christmas.”

At the mention of the festivals, Mortimer’s eyes dropped to his glass.

He was tracing the rim with his finger, watching for any reaction from Seraphina-waiting for a flicker of a memory of the holidays they’d spent together.

Seraphina just sat there, the perfect listener, offering nothing but polite silence.

The food started arriving shortly after.

Once the waiters cleared out, Edwin looked at the spread, his eyes lighting up. “Sera really does know my habits. She even remembered the spices the doctors told me to avoid.”

“I just want you to enjoy your meal, Grandfather.”

The room was warm, filled with the easy banter between an elder and a favored granddaughter.

Only Mortimer felt out of place. He stared at the feast, his expression turning colder by the second.

His dark eyes lost whatever light was left in them.

He’d realized something. Despite the abundance of the meal, there wasn’t a single dish on the table that he liked.

Seraphina was a pro. She was the perfect Luna, the perfect daughter-in-law.

Her presence had always been the bedrock of the Blade pack’s domestic stability. He’d relied on that strength for three years.

But that “magic” was now being used as a weapon against him.

“Grandfather, the crab is fresh, but the roe is too high in cholesterol for you. Just a taste,” Seraphina murmured. Her hands moved with surgical efficiency, picking the meat and placing it on Edwin’s plate.

“Anything you say, Sera,” Edwin laughed. He didn’t even care that she was taking away the best parts.

Mortimer stared at that plate of crab meat.

He had to admit it-Seraphina used to be his anchor because she never lost her cool.

She handled his moods with a calm, rational grace.

But now? He studied her polite, distant face.

Now, she saved all her sharpest edges and coldest walls specifically for him.
