Third Person’s PQV

Mortimer could win any boardroom battle or territory war, but with Seraphina, every punch he threw felt like hitting a brick wall.

He glared at her, his chest heaving, his eyes bloodshot with pure frustration.

“I just look at Dash as a younger brother,” Seraphina sighed, trying to reason with him. “If you want to be petty about it, that’s on you.”

Mortimer felt a vein in his temple throbbing violently.

A brother?!

That made him even madder. “Is that the kind of roleplay they’re into?” He was shaking with rage.

“You’re really unstable right now. Either let me drive or pull over. You need to calm down.” Seraphina tightened her grip on her seatbelt.

She was seriously worried this Alpha was losing his mind and might drive them straight into a concrete wall.

She wasn’t ready to die yet.

By now, she was absolutely convinced Mortimer had some deep childhood trauma involving dogs. Why else would he turn into a homicidal maniac every time she mentioned Dash?

Their brainwaves were completely on different wavelengths.

To Mortimer, her casual dismissal sounded like a cheating wife blowing off her affair.

It reminded him of a quote from a relationship magazine: The worst part of a relationship isn’t the fighting; it’s when you bring a hurricane, and they just ask if you turned off the AC.

This kind of emotional detachment was killing him.

“Bzz-”

Suddenly, her phone lit up, breaking the suffocating silence.

Seraphina glanced at the screen.

It was Trista.

For some reason, her heart skipped a beat. A terrible feeling of dread washed over her.

The second she picked up, her friend’s panicked voice came through the speaker, crying and frantic.

“Sera! Oh my god, Dash is gone! He’s missing!!”

“Dash is missing?!” Seraphina’s voice spiked with pure terror. Her fingers dug into the phone:

Mortimer, who had been brooding, slammed on the brakes.

He looked over and saw Seraphina’s face turn completely white.

All her usual icy composure was gone, replaced by total panic.

Not for him. Not for their marriage. For Dash.

Mortimer gritted his teeth, his aura barely under control.

“Agrown man got lost in L.A.? Is he a toddler?”

“Why is she having a meltdown over this?!”>

“I’m on my way back, Trista. Check the nearby blocks, I’ll be there in a minute!” Seraphina’s voice was shaking.

This was Los Angeles.

Sure, it was supposed to be a safe city for pets, but it was full of animal abusers, dog thieves, and crazy traffic.

If Dash got picked up by someone, or hit by a speeding car…

Seraphina couldn’t even think about it. Her chest tightened so hard she could barely breathe.

“Mortimer, speed up! Drive faster!!” She whipped her head around, her eyes red and tearing up.

Mortimer’s jealousy finally boiled over.

He sneered coldly, “If he’s gone, he’s gone! Is he too stupid to find his way home?!”

In her state of sheer panic, his cold comment completely set her off.

“Yes! He’s not as smart as you! Can you just drive faster?!” she screamed at the top of her lungs. Her aura energy flared with her

scream.

It wasn’t a physical threat, but a wave of raw emotion that slammed into the car.

Mortimer was about to insult her “precious Dash” again, but when he saw the tears streaming down her face, the words caught

in his throat.

He froze.

He felt a wave of shock, confusion, and deep humiliation.

From the day he met her, Seraphina had always been calm and composed.

Even when he left her to deal with his family’s mockery while he ran off for Vivian, she just quietly cleaned up the mess like a

machine.

She had never, not once, cried in front of him.

And now she was crying over another man. Right in his passenger seat.

“Seraphina!” Mortimer gripped the steering wheel so hard his veins popped, his aura flaring up. “Is that/foser really that great?! Great enough for you to lose your goddamn dignity?!”

Seraphina didn’t have the time or the patience to figure out why this idiot was jealous of a golden retriever’s IQ.

They had just hit the main road.
