Chapter 174
Third Person’s PQV
“It’s hard to say. Usually, it’s caused by seeing something that terrifies them, or triggering severe traumatic memories. To know the exact cause, we’ll have to wait until Luna Seraphina wakes up and ask her directly.”
Mortimer nodded, not asking further.
“Can I go in and see her now?”
“Of course. Once she is transferred to a regular ward, you can stay with her.”
Mortimer nodded again, but his brows locked even tighter.
The worry in his heart didn’t dissipate; instead, it grew exponentially heavier.
“A stress response? Something that terrifies her…” he muttered softly, pondering the doctor’s words.
Just then, a commotion echoed from the corridor.
“Honey, calm down! Don’t be impulsive!” Wilmot’s anxious voice rang out from around the corner.
Immediately after, Trista’s figure stormed into Mortimer’s line of sight.
Spotting him instantly, she marched over furiously.
“Mortimer, you bastard! Haven’t you made Sera miserable enough?!”
“You knew damn well she almost died buried under the snow, and you still took her skiing? “Trista’s words made Mortimer’s pupils violently tremble. His already terrible complexion drained of all color, turning deathly pale.
“What did you say?” His voice was hoarse and shaking.
Trista looked at his expression and let out a cold, sarcastic sneer.
“Who are you putting on this deep-affection act for now? Sera stopped needing it a long time ago. If you have any shame left, you’ll get the hell out before she wakes up… What are you doing?”
Mortimer suddenly clamped down on her wrist. The explosive strength of a top-tier Alpha was so great it felt like he was going to snap Trista’s bones.
“Explain yourself. What do you mean she almost died under the snow?”
“Let go of me, you bastard!” Trista screamed and cursed, desperately trying to yank her hand free.
Seeing this, Wilmot’s expression drastically changed.
“Mortimer, let go! Are you trying to break my wife’s arm? Let her go, now!”
As another Alpha of the pack, Wilmot charged forward with a dark expression. He grabbed Mortimer’s wrist with both hands, attempting to forcefully pry his iron grip apart. 1
But Mortimer’s strength at that moment was terrifying. The bones of the two Alphas ground together, emitting a dull, terrifying friction sound. The veins on Wilmot’s forehead bulged, yet he couldn’t move Mortimer an inch.
At this moment, Mortimer was like a crazed beast. His eyes were completely bloodshot, and the feral, slitted pupils deep within looked like they were about to drip actual blood.
He glared dead at Trista, teeth gritted, his breaths carrying a trembling, beastly growl.
He repeated his demand, “What do you mean she almost died under the snow?”

But it was as if Trista had finially found the perfect way to torture him. Even though her wrist could be snapped by the Alpha’s brute force at any second, she gritted her teeth and endured the agonizing pain.
She stared at him with a lace full of mockery. “Why the hell should I tell you? If you wanted to know so badly, you shouldn’t have gone off to accompany your precious Vivian.”
“Honey, please don’t provoke him! His wolf is about to lose control, he really will break your arm! Just tell him, what happened?
Wilmot was stamping his feet in a panic beside them.
“Shut up! You’re in league with him, stay out of my way!”
Enduring the cold sweat of pain, Trista roared at her husband.
Wilmot felt both wronged and frantic. Seeing the Alpha aura radiating from Mortimer growing heavier and heavier, he knew Trista’s bones would actually shatter if this continued.
The wolf inside Wilmot instantly awakened, his primal instinct to protect his mate fully triggered.
He jerked his head to the side and delivered a devastating, full-force punch squarely onto the side of Mortimer’s face.
The loud, pure physical clash sent pungent, violent pheromones spilling out into the corridor.
The punch knocked Mortimer’s head to the side, forcing him back two steps. The crushing grip on Trista’s wrist finally released.
Taking a direct hit to the face from a fellow Alpha split his lip instantly. Blood trickled down his chiseled jaw, but Mortimer seemed completely oblivious to the pain.
