Chapter 183

Third Person’s POV

Vivian stormed back into the living room, her face dark, only to hear her father screaming hysterically, “You’re actually sitting around drinking tea?! We’re in massive trouble, do you get that?”

Vivian was already irritated to the absolute limit, and this sudden chaos pushed her right to the edge.

Taking a deep breath, she forced down the urge to scream.

She hurried over, putting on a calm front to soothe him. “Dad, just take a breath. What exactly happened?”

She poured a glass of water and handed it to Connor. “Calm down.”

Connor scoffed and sank into the sofa. He downed the water in one gulp before letting out a long, heavy exhale.

“The advance payment for the Craig Corporation’s East City project was supposed to clear this afternoon,” he said. “But we’ve waited all day, and they haven’t wired a single cent.”

“So what? Maybe Craig’s finance department just got backed up. It’s the Craig Corporation we’re talking about-are you seriously worried they won’t pay up?”

Lillian rubbed her wrist, looking completely unbothered. “I thought something actually bad happened. If it didn’t hit today, just

check again tomorrow.”

“You don’t know shit!” Hearing Lillian’s idiotic response, Connor angrily slammed his glass down on the coffee table.

“I have a buddy in Craig’s finance department. I called him up, and he told me off the record that the order came straight from the CEO’s office. They completely canceled Everreach’s payment!”

Hearing that, the color completely drained from Lillian and Vivian’s faces.

“How is that even possible?”

Vivian shot up from the sofa, her voice hitting a sharp, distorted pitch out of sheer shock and panic.

The moment she heard “CEO’s office,” the blood rushed straight to her head, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs.

No. That’s absolutely impossible!

“Are you saying Mortimer ordered this?! Why would Mortimer deliberately sabotage us?! He literally just scrubbed the internet of Mom’s scandal a few days ago!” Vivian screamed, desperately trying to convince her father—and more importantly, herself.

Vivian refused-and absolutely didn’t dare-to accept the possibility that Mortimer’s feelings for her had shifted.

“It has to be some jealous bitch in the executive suite! Or one of those secretaries who hates me! They’re purposely messing with us using Mortimer’s name!”

Thinking of her imaginary rivals, Vivian’s perfectly made-up face twisted into a vicious, ugly sneer.

She gritted her teeth and shrieked, “Someone is definitely playing games behind the scenes! Mortimer would never do this to me!”

Connor stared at his daughter in sheer disbelief, not even having the energy to argue with her.

How could anyone in the executive suite possibly dare to forge Mortimer’s orders on a decision this massive?

No one who made it to the top ranks of the Craig Corporation was that stupid.

But Connor also knew that pointing this out would be a complete waste of breath.

His daughter was entirely deaf to reality, totally intoxicated by the fake fantasy she had built around Mortimer.

“I knew it the day I visited the office. All those women were dressed like sluts, clearly throwing themselves at Mortimer!”

Vivian hissed, a crazy glint in hereyes. “No! I’m calling him right now. He needs to fire whoever is pulling this crap!”

She whipped out her phone and started dialing

“Enough! Haven’t you embarrassed us enough?”

Connor snapped, cutting her off.

“Use your damn brain for once! That’s the executive suite. Who would be stupid enough to pull a stunt that would get them blacklisted from the industry? No one dares to defy Mortimer! This was obviously his direct order-are you completely blind?!”

Connor’s brutal reality check made Vivian’s face twist into an ugly grimace for a second before draining to a sickening pale.

“Impossible! Mortimer would never do this to us.” Vivian gripped her phone so tightly her knuckles turned white, absolutely refusing to accept it.

“Yeah, honey, it’s not like we offended Mortimer. Plus, he has such a special relationship with Vivian. Why would he suddenly target us for no reason?” Lillian chimed in, a noticeable edge of panic in her voice.
