Chapter 189

Third Person’s POV

So even though Mortimer had been ignoring her texts and calls, Vivian wanted to use tonight’s gala to confront him and figure out what was going on. She needed to know if he was giving her the cold shoulder just because Seraphina had thrown a fit.

As long as she waited for Mortimer and walked in with him, the public would automatically assume they were still intimately involved.

But she never in a million years expected Seraphina to actually show up.

When Mortimer helped his wife out of the car, seeing Seraphina looking like that, Vivian practically ground her teeth into dust.

The underlying sense of threat she had always felt regarding Seraphina skyrocketed to an absolute peak the second she saw her flawless face tonight.

Once the two of them stepped inside the banquet hall, Mortimer leaned in close to Seraphina’s ear and whispered carefully, “I didn’t invite her.”

As he explained, he nervously studied Seraphina’s expression.

But Seraphina just gave a brief “Mhm,” her face completely unbothered.

She was even cooperative enough to maintain a perfect, polite smile.

With all the cameras around them, she didn’t let the media catch a single ounce of displeasure over Vivian’s presence.

“Just keep her in line, please. Don’t let her bother me.”

Seeing her smiling so perfectly while speaking so coldly and distantly made a bitter pill lodge in Mortimer’s throat.

Still, he immediately promised, “I’ll have security escort her out right now.”

“No need,” Seraphina rejected the offer. “It’s a big event, and she’s already here. Kicking her out now will just make people overthink things.”

She didn’t want to end up trending again tomorrow morning with headlines like: “Luna Seraphina throws a jealous fit at anniversary gala, forcing Alpha Mortimer to kick out his childhood sweetheart.”

She just wanted to be a normal doctor. She had zero interest in becoming internet famous again.

Mortimer opened his mouth to say something else, but a middle-aged couple holding champagne flutes walked up to them.

“Mortimer.”

Mortimer gave them a polite nod. “Mr. Holmes, Mrs. Holmes.”

After the greetings, he introduced Seraphina. “This is my wife, Seraphina.”

Mr. and Mrs. Holmes nodded at her warmly.

Then, Mrs. Holmes smiled and added, “Seraphina and I actually crossed paths two years ago.”

“Oh? You know her?” Mr. Holmes asked, surprised.

“Two years ago, when my father had that heart surgery at the Shadowfang Healing Center, Seraphina was Professor Bauer’s assistant,” Mrs. Holmes explained to her husband.

“Ah, I see.” Mr. Holmes nodded, looking at Seraphina with clear admiration. “That was a very difficult surgery. With Seraphina’s excellent support, it went smoothly, and my father couldn’t stop praising her.”

This time, Mrs. Holmes changed how she addressed her.

Instead of calling her “Mrs. Craig,” she used “Seraphina.”

As she spoke, she shot Mortimera highly meaningful, almost deliberate look before turning back to her husband. “At the time, my father even wanted to introduce Curtis to Seraphina.”

Curtis was Mrs. Holmes’s nephew.

“I certainly didn’t expect her to be Mortimer’s wife. You two kept that completely under wraps. We all thought she was single.”

It was hard to tell if Mrs. Holmes was saying this on purpose or if it was just an innocent comment.

But hearing it out loud, Mortimer felt a burning flush of absolute humiliation hit his face.

Seraphina casually stepped in to smooth things over. “I’m just not very used to these kinds of big events,” she said with a polite smile.

True or not, Seraphina felt she had perfectly fulfilled all the social obligations required of a Luna in this moment.

They chatted with the Holmeses for a little while longer. Seeing other people approaching to greet Mortimer, the couple politely excused themselves.

After that, Mortimer guided Seraphina around the room, introducing her one by one to the VIPs from various industries.

Throughout the whole process, Seraphina handled herself with flawless elegance and grace. Nobody could pick a single flaw in her performance.
