Third Person’s POV

Just as Seraphina was about to pull her foot away, a bright flash caught the corner of her eye-someone was taking photos.
She looked at Mortimer, who had completely swallowed his pride and was gazing at her with an incredibly gentle expression, and instantly understood.
This was just another PR move.
So, she played along and let him smoothly change her shoes for her.
Not far away, Vivian stood frozen, grinding her teeth as she glared at the glaringly intimate scene.
She watched helplessly as the man she saw as an untouchable king bent his proud back, half-kneeling in front of Seraphina just to change her shoes.
When had Mortimer ever stooped so low?
Even she had never dared to dream of having him put her shoes on for her.
How could Seraphina trample all over his pride like that?
The sight made Vivian’s eyes burn red with pure, venomous jealousy. Her hands clenched so hard she crinkled the expensive fabric of her heavy gown.
Blinded by sheer fury, Vivian grabbed her skirts and marched aggressively toward Seraphina in her stilettos.
But before she could even get close, Mortimer swiftly stood up. His towering frame, radiating the heavy, crushing pressure of a dominant Alpha, completely shielded Seraphina from view.
He looked down at Vivian, his eyes cold as ice.
Meeting that near-feral glare, Vivian instantly stopped dead in her tracks. Her expression shifted at lightning speed. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she lowered her head, playing the part of a wronged, fragile victim.
Twisting her fingers together, she said timidly, “Mortimer… I’m not here to cause trouble. I know I was too impulsive outside earlier. I just wanted to come over and apologize to Seraphina in person…”
“No need.” Mortimer’s voice was dead flat, so cold it made people shiver.
“But I really mean it…”
“I said, no need.” Mortimer cut her off, a dark storm brewing in his pupils. “Don’t let me ever catch you near Seraphina again. Stay away from her. This is your final warning.”
Dropping those words, Mortimer didn’t even spare her another glance before striding off toward the buffet area.
Vivian bit her lip, glaring at his retreating back, her chest heaving with bitter resentment.
She wanted to brazenly step around him and approach Seraphina anyway, but before she could take two steps, Tade popped up out of nowhere. Smiling but completely unyielding, he blocked her path.
“Miss Davis,” Tade gave a slight bow, his tone polite but chillingly distant. “Tonight is a very important event for the group. To avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings, could I ask you to step away and head over to the lounge area?”
Vivian could already feel the judgmental side-eyes of nearby guests turning her way.
Biting her lip hard, she knew she couldn’t win this fight here. With a resentful stomp of her foot, she spun around and quickly chased after Mortimer.

Mortimer had just finished plating some food for Seraphina and was about to head back when Vivian suddenly popped up right behind him.
“Mortimer.”
He frowned slightly.
Over the years, he hadn’t been completely blind to the fact that Vivian did some things on purpose.
But since her little schemes never seemed like a big deal, he had just let her get away with them.
But now he finally understood-what he considered “no big deal” was actually an invisible knife stabbing Seraphina over and
over again.
He only thought it was fine because he wasn’t the one getting hurt.
Could he blame it all on Vivian, though?
No.
Vivian was just the blade he used to hurt Seraphina; he was the one holding the knife.
“Mortimer, did you block my number?” Vivian asked, her voice thick with fake tears. She clutched her chest weakly, looking like she might pass out from a lack of air at any second.
Tears brimmed in her eyes as she desperately tried to squeeze a shred of sympathy out of him.
“Yes.”
