Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 205

Chapter 205

Third Person’s POV

“Alright, alright. You’re acting like the police will just arrest your mom just because Luna Seraphina said so. The cops don’t just arrest people for fun. Did your mom actually do something illegal?” Whenever Humphrey’s scalp tingled, he felt like his brain had just leveled up.

On the other end of the line, Vivian was completely choked by Humphrey’s breezy, point-blank interrogation. “I…”

“Humph, do you not believe me?”

“Look at you, dodging the question and changing the subject. That means there’s definitely a problem. If I go bother Mortimer for you right now, aren’t you just throwing me under the bus? Are you trying to get me screamed at?”

Vivian went dead silent.

“I’m hanging up,” Humphrey said. Without waiting for Vivian to say another word, he decisively tapped the screen and ended

the call.

He walked back to the booth. Randall leaned in and nudged him. “What did Vivian want?”

Humphrey threw a cautious glance at Mortimer before lowering his voice, “She said Luna Seraphina called the cops and had her

mom arrested.”

“Huh?”

Randall was genuinely shocked, dropping his voice even lower than Humphrey’s. “Did her mom commit a crime?”

“Hard to say.”

Humphrey clicked his tongue. Remembering that this involved Seraphina, he shot another look at Mortimer, who was still aggressively downing his liquor. “Do you think we should tell Mortimer?”

“Tell him what? Are you worried Mortimer and Seraphina’s relationship isn’t ruined enough already?”

Randall rolled his eyes at him. “And I highly suggest you wake up and stop getting so close to Vivian.”

“I am not!”

Humphrey straightened his back and argued, “I only ever treated her well because Mortimer treated her well! I was doing it out of respect for Mortimer!”

Humphrey had idolized Mortimer since they were kids.

In his eyes, whatever Mortimer did was right.

Therefore, if Mortimer spoiled Vivian, naturally, Humphrey would treat her well too. It had nothing to do with Vivian herself-it was entirely about loyalty to his Alpha.

He felt completely justified in his defense.

Because they were sitting so close, Humphrey and Randall’s whispered debate naturally drifted into Wilmot’s ears.

Wilmot lazily lifted his eyelids and shot the two of them a highly meaningful look.

Even though these two were absolute idiots, sometimes idiots spoke the truest words. Exactly. While Vivian was the direct catalyst for Mortimer and Seraphina’s mating reaching this disastrous point, at the end of the day, Mortimer was the root cause.

If it weren’t for his boundless indulgence, Vivian never would have been able to stir up so much trouble in the first place.

“If you ask me, you should still keep your distance from Vivian. She’s not even as genuine as your Alina,” Randall advised.

Hearing that, Humphrey instantly got defensive.

“What’s with that tone? What do you mean ‘not even as genuine as Alina’? Is Alina bad or something?”

Randall shot Humphrey a look of pure exasperation.

“You idiot. Don’t tell me you still haven’t figured out that Alina is only after your money?”

Humphrey’s previously righteous posture deflated for a second, but the next moment, he puffed his chest back out. “Why does she only want my money and not anyone else’s? That just proves Alina truly has me in her heart.”

Randall shook his head, utterly speechless.

Throughout all of this, Mortimer hadn’t uttered a single word. He just kept his head down, forcefully pouring alcohol down his

throat.

Once he had consumed a dangerous amount, Wilmot finally reached out and grabbed his glass. “Stop drinking. Even if you drink yourself to death right here, Seraphina isn’t going to see it.”

The name “Seraphina” seemed to hit a hidden switch inside Mortimer, instantly cutting through the heavy, cloudy haze of alcohol in his eyes with a flash of desperate clarity.

“Is she here? Where is she?” He braced his hands on the sofa and stumbled to his feet, scanning the dimly lit bar frantically, but Seraphina was nowhere to be found.

“Liar.” He let out a hollow, bitter laugh. “She would never come looking for me.”

She absolutely hated him.

He stood up unsteadily, picked up his coat that had been tossed onto the corner of the sofa, and stumbled toward the exit.

“Mortimer, slow down. We’ll take you home,” Humphrey hurriedly stepped forward to support him, but Mortimer violently

shoved him away.

Even heavily intoxicated, the sheer force of the top-tier Alpha’s shove made Humphrey’s arm go completely numb.

“Don’t touch me. No one gets to touch me except my wife,” Mortimer growled drunkenly.

Humphrey, Wilmot, and Randall exchanged worried glances.

Watching him stumble out of the VIP booth, the three of them couldn’t leave him like that and quickly followed him out.

“I’ve never seen Mortimer this dependent on Seraphina before,” Humphrey muttered thoughtfully, watching Mortimer’s staggering back.

“This is called regret, do you understand?” Randall sighed heavily. “He tortured his mating bond with Seraphina to the point of near-rupture. Did you really think his wolf wouldn’t suffer a brutal backlash?”
