Chapter 206
Third Person’s POV
In the Shadowfang Healing Center, Trista was working the night shift.
When she saw the three men hurriedly appear in the emergency room, her brows immediately knit together.
When she got a closer look at the unconscious man being propped up by Humphrey and Randall, her frown deepened.
“What happened to him?”
“He drank until he started throwing up blood.”
Wilmot stood next to Trista, his tone filled with a fawning eagerness. “Honey, get someone to take a look at him first, and while you’re at it…”
He massaged Trista’s shoulders trying to butter her up. “…while you’re at it, give Seraphina a call and let her know.”
Hearing this, Trista impatiently swatted Wilmot’s hands off her shoulders.
“Why would I tell Seraphina? She isn’t a gastroenterologist.”
“No, Trista, I mean-”
“Wilmot, if you can’t learn how to shut your mouth, then get out,” Trista interrupted him, thoroughly annoyed.
Wilmot immediately clamped his mouth shut. He cast a look of both sympathy and subtle schadenfreude at the unconscious man on the ER bed. “Bro, I tried my best for you.”
After the ER doctor gave Mortimer emergency treatment, he was transferred to a private VIP ward. The doctor gave them strict instructions, “The patient drank so much it caused gastric bleeding. His esophagus and gastric mucosa have been severely irritated. He absolutely cannot drink like this again.”
“Got it. Thank you, Doctor.”
After seeing the doctor out, Wilmot stood in the ward, exchanging helpless glances with the other two.
“Will, what do we do? I tried calling Luna Seraphina, but she isn’t picking up,” Humphrey said awkwardly, holding Mortimer’s phone.
“Of course she isn’t picking up. The moment Seraphina sees Mortimer’s caller ID, she’s going to ignore it,” Randall said, rolling his eyes at Humphrey. He pulled out his own phone and dialed Seraphina’s number.
The phone rang twice before it connected.
“Hello? Who is this?” Seraphina’s slightly raspy voice came through the speaker. She had clearly been woken up from a deep sleep.
Feeling a bit guilty, Randall spoke carefully, “Seraphina, it’s Randall.”
There was a slight pause on the other end, and then her tone cooled considerably. “Do you need something?”
“It’s… it’s like this. Mortimer has gastric bleeding. Do you… want to come to the hospital to see him?” Just as Randall finished his sentence, he noticed the man on the hospital bed, who had been passed out, slowly opening his eyes.
A moment of silence stretched over the line before Seraphina’s cold voice replied, “I’m not on shift tonight. I’m not at the healing center.”
“Seraphina, even… even if you aren’t on shift, you could still come take a look at him, right?” Randall’s tone grew even more cautious. He shot a sympathetic glance at the man on the bed, who was now staring blankly at the ceiling, listening.

“Na need. I’m not a gastroenterologist, so I don’t know much about that field. If there’s nothing else, I’m going back to sleep.”
Seraphina’s aloof, resolute voice echoed clearly into Mortimer’s ears. The faint glimmer of hope that had just sparked in his eyes completely extinguished, leaving behind a hollow darkness.
“Seraphina-” Before Randall could finish, Seraphina had already hung up.
Randall’s expression was incredibly awkward. He exchanged a look with the other two men in the room before turning his gaze back to the man on the bed, who looked like he had just shattered into a million pieces.
“Mortimer, she… she might just be in a bad mood because she was woken up. She isn’t intentionally refusing to see you,” Randall tried to comfort him.
Great. That wasn’t comforting at all.
Mortimer looked like he was about to cry.
Looking at Mortimer’s deathly pale face and lifeless eyes, Randall opened his mouth but couldn’t find anything else to say.
“Forget it. Don’t bother her in the middle of the night,” Mortimer rasped. A sharp, agonizing pain seized his chest, making the bleeding in his stomach feel like nothing in comparison.
“Seraphina… you really are ruthless.”
“Mortimer…”
“You guys should head back,” Mortimer interrupted.
“Mortimer-”
“Alright, we’ll head back first. Get some rest,” Wilmot cut Humphrey off. He walked up to the side of the bed and looked down.” Stop being so depressed. Seraphina isn’t going to feel sorry for you anyway.”
