Chapter 209
Third Person’s POV
“Heh.” Mortimer let out a low, self-deprecating laugh.
He was so stupid.
Vivian’s methods had been so full of glaring holes, but just because he looked at her through the thick filter of a “lifesaver,” that halo had completely blinded him to all her vicious, underhanded tricks.
“Alpha, you should rest first. I’ll have Yolanda notify everyone that the morning meeting is canceled,” Tade urged, seeing that Mortimer’s condition was incredibly unstable.
Fine beads of cold sweat were continuously seeping from Mortimer’s forehead, and even the Alpha pheromones radiating from his body had grown terrifyingly weak and chaotic.
Tade was genuinely afraid that his boss was going to collapse completely this time.
Suddenly, Mortimer grabbed his phone. With trembling, frantic fingers, he dialed a number.
The phone rang for a long time before it was finally picked up.
The dim light in Mortimer’s eyes instantly flared with life. A low, hopeful plea tumbled from his throat, “Sera.”
“Do you need something?” Seraphina’s cold voice, laced with a faint trace of impatience, came through the receiver.
Those few simple words made the desperate smile that had just begun to form on Mortimer’s lips freeze.
Swallowing hard, he spoke carefully, his voice thick with the suffocating panic he had been suppressing for days. “Could you come to the healing center to see me? I have something to tell you, it’s about…”
“I have things to do right now, so it’s not convenient for me to go over. If you have something to say, just say it over the phone.”
Through the speaker, Mortimer could hear the chaotic, bustling background noise of a street or a shopping mall. She was out.
The light in his eyes died completely. The wolf inside his chest curled up in pure, agonizing despair. “Then… when it’s convenient for you, could you come to the healing center to see me?”
His tone was practically begging-utterly humble and broken.
Standing off to the side, Tade thought he would never, in his entire life, see this high-and-mighty, untouchable Alpha look so pathetically humble.
The other end of the line fell silent for a moment.
Just as Mortimer thought Seraphina might have softened even a fraction of an inch and was about to agree, her stiff, unyielding voice shattered his delusion. “I told you, I’m busy. If you have something to say, say it now. If not, I’m hanging up.”
“I…” Mortimer felt the icy void transmitting through their mating bond. It felt as if Seraphina’s words had smashed a massive, gaping hole right through it. Freezing winds howled through the rupture, making him shiver violently. 1
As he scrambled to figure out how to even begin explaining the misunderstanding from back then, Seraphina’s voice cut through again. “I have to go. I really have things to do. Goodbye.”
“Sera-”
The harsh, mechanical dial tone ruthlessly shoved every word Mortimer wanted to say right back down his throat.
His arm dropped limply to his side. The freezing cold was spreading, turning even his fingertips to ice.
Meanwhile, Seraphina was sitting inside a high-end, custom fountain pen boutique named Landing Mastercrafters, with Dash

Dash was sitting obediently in his pet stroller, happily chewing on a small toy ball. Seraphina sat on the velvet sofa, looking over a display of exquisite, low-key, yet undeniably luxurious fountain pens laid out before her.
“Luna Seraphina?”
Randall, having just walked into the boutique, saw the figure on the sofa and called out tentatively.
Seraphina looked up. Seeing it was Randall, she gave a polite nod.
“Luna Seraphina, are you here to order a custom pen as a gift?”
Seraphina nodded. She was a bit surprised that this ultra-luxurious boutique actually belonged to Randall, but she didn’t say much about it.
At that moment, the sales associate walked over and asked respectfully, “Ms. Hale, would you like to have any special text or a family crest engraved on the pen?”
Seraphina thought for a moment. A profound look flashed through her beautiful eyes before she said calmly, “Just engrave the letter ‘C’.”
“Understood, Ms. Hale.”
The associate brought over a design blueprint and a contract detailing the customization requirements for Seraphina to sign.
After she signed her name, the clerk carefully filed the paperwork away.
“Ms. Hale, the custom pen will be completed by tomorrow. We will notify you by phone as soon as it’s ready.”
“Thank you.”
Seraphina stood up to pay, but Randall immediately reached out to stop her.
“Luna Seraphina, you’re in my shop! How could I possibly let you pay for this? If Mortimer found out I charged you, he’d skin me alive.”
Hearing this, Seraphina just looked at him blankly. Her expression didn’t ripple even the slightest bit at the mention of Mortimer’s name.
She politely refused. “Thank you. But this is a gift for someone else, so I couldn’t possibly let you cover the cost. You should run
the card.”
With that, she firmly handed her premium card to the associate.
