Chapter 212
Third Person’s POV
Humphrey shoved Wilmot and Randall along, urging them to leave the hospital ward quickly.
Vivian sat completely dumbfounded on the cold floor. Through the open door, she could even hear Humphrey and Wilmot’s voices echoing from the corridor, “No wonder Alina always calls me an idiot. I really was so stupid before.”
“No, you’re actually incredibly smart-you’ve always known exactly whose side to stand on.”
“Why do I feel like you two are sarcastically calling me a fence-sitter?”
Listening to their footsteps gradually fade away, Vivian slumped on the floor, her eyes wide with sheer disbelief.
She couldn’t figure it out. How could all those people-the ones who used to put her on a pedestal, coax her, and treat hier like a precious treasure even though they knew she was just an omega-now walk away without even looking back? Was everything they did for her in the past completely fake?
“No… no, that’s impossible… I am Mortimer’s lifesaver! He couldn’t possibly treat me like this!”
Vivian bit down hard on her lower lip, absolutely refusing to accept the reality laid bare in front of her.
Bracing herself against the floor, she stumbled to her feet and staggered out of the healing center.
Inside the pure black Bentley, “Alpha, are we heading back to Luna Seraphina’s apartment?”
Mortimer leaned back against the rear seat, raising a hand to press against his throbbing temples.
The moment he recalled Seraphina’s freezing, utterly emotionless tone over the phone, the wolf inside him twitched with agonizing pain.
Finally, he closed his eyes in defeat. “Back to the Alpha Villa.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
After the car had driven smoothly away from the Healing Center for some distance, Tade, sitting in the passenger seat, heard Mortimer’s low, hoarse voice from the back.
“There is one more thing. Have someone investigate it. I don’t care what methods you have to use.”
When Tade heard exactly what Mortimer wanted him to investigate, he fell into a dead silence. The truth behind the lifesaver from the attack over a decade ago?
r
“You want me to investigate it NOW? What the hell were you doing all these years?!”
“Just looking at Vivian’s selfish face, anyone could tell she isn’t some selfless saint who would sacrifice her own life to save someone else’s. If you had just used your authority to look into this back then, would we be dealing with this absolute mess today?!” 1
Seeing Tade remain silent for far too long, Mortimer glanced at the rearview mirror. Catching Tade’s complicated, indescribable expression, Mortimer’s brows furrowed deeply. “Can you not investigate it?”
“Sure… I can investigate it!” Tade instantly snapped to attention.
“Investigate it! I will investigate the hell out of it! Even if I have to flip over every single grain of dirt in that forest from ten years ago, I will dig up the truth!”
The next day.
“Let’s go. I’m taking you out to play.”

After breakfast, Seraphina placed the obedient Dash into his pet stroller and headed out of her home.
“Sera, taking Dash out for a walk again?”
She happened to run into an old professor and his wife who were out for a morning stroll in the neighborhood.
Almost everyone living in this residential complex was a professor at the Shadowfang Academy. Many of these highly respected senior professors were former colleagues of Seraphina’s parents, and even her grandparents.
Seraphina had lived here for over ten years. Since the Hale family of the Silvermoon pack were absolute authorities in the fields of herbs and healing, most of the elders here had watched her grow up.
Yesterday, when she first brought Dash back here, the old professors had immediately taken a liking to the little dog.
The neighborhood was very close to the Academy. For the past few years, her parents, Garfield and Thomasina, spent most of their time living at the research institute for their projects, rarely returning to the Silver Moon pack.
The day Professor Bauer arranged for her to become a substitute teacher, she had already planned to move back here with Dash.
“Good morning, Professors.”
After exchanging pleasantries, she walked Dash over to Garfield’s private parking spot. She drove out a heavy-duty SUV that had been sitting idle for quite a while and took Dash to Landing Mastercrafters to pick up her custom fountain pen.
“Ms. Hale, here is your customized gift box,” the boutique manager said, handing over an exquisitely luxurious box adorned with subtle, dark patterns.
“Thank you.”
She didn’t inspect it too closely. Tucking it into her shopping bag, she spent the better half of the day wandering around the mall with Dash, buying him a massive pile of new toys and teething snacks.
Before she knew it, it was already noon.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from Caldwell.
“I just got my boarding card, but honestly, with a face like mine, I think I’m better suited to take over a board of Directors. Ms. Hale, remember to come to the airport and meet your new Chairman of the Board when I land.”
Seeing Caldwell casually dropping a double-entendre pun about “boarding” and “boards of directors,” Seraphina couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
This man, who was usually a bit narcissistic yet undeniably charming, always knew how to use deadpan amor to lighten the mood.
Playing along with his joke, she typed back a reply using the same corporate theme.
“If you were just ‘boarding,’ I might have considered picking you up. But if you’re the new Chairman of the Board, I need to see if my severance pay is high enough first, Mr. ‘Chairman.””
