“Aren’t we waiting for Luna Seraphina?” Randall asked.

Mortimer’s face was grim. The oppressive aura radiating from him made it hard to breathe. “No. She isn’t coming.”

With that, he opened the door and walked out first.

The others could sense that his wolf spirit was on the verge of losing control. No one dared stay behind, so they hurried after

him.

Meanwhile, Seraphina had only been waiting in the hotel lobby a few minutes when Caldwell came downstairs, already changed.

“Why don’t you get a little more rest?”

“I slept enough on the plane. An Alpha’s metabolism burns through everything fast. I’m starving. Let’s get something to eat.” As he spoke, Caldwell took over Dash’s pet stroller.

Seraphina was still cradling the snow-white Devon Rex, gently squeezing its tiny paw pads.

A faint smile touched Caldwell’s lips. “The restaurant I booked is just a short walk from the hotel. Let’s head over.”

The warm glow of the streetlights spilled across the snowy ground.

A man, a woman, a cat, and a dog walked side by side beneath the lights, chatting and laughing.

On such a frigid winter night, they looked surprisingly at ease together. The scene felt warm and peaceful.

“What’s she doing here?” She murmured to herself, then her eyes settled on the tall, handsome man beside Seraphina.

Watching them laugh together, Vivian let out a cold smirk. She pulled out her phone and snapped photos from several angles.

Once they were seated, Seraphina handed Caldwell the gift box she’d prepared. “This is for you.”

Caldwell raised an eyebrow, smiling. “You brought me a gift?”

Seraphina grinned. “You saved my wolf and my life in Alaska. I honestly don’t know how to thank you.”

Chuckling, Caldwell accepted the gift and set it beside his chair. “I thought you were about to say, ‘Since I don’t know how to repay you, why don’t I break my mate bond and marry you instead?””

The smile on Seraphina’s face froze.

Then she caught the teasing grin on his face and realized he was joking. She smiled. “What, did I almost scare you?”

Caldwell lifted an eyebrow, his tone carrying a bit of werewolf gentlemanly flattery. “It would be an honor to catch your eye.”

The two chatted happily through dinner, completely unaware that Vivian was still lurking outside near the law firm, watching

them the whole time.

“Miss Davis, I’ll be on my way. If you need anything else, don’t hesitate to call.” The lawyer’s voice broke the silence beside her.

Vivian answered absently, never taking her eyes off them. Her finger kept tapping the shutter button, leaving no attention for the lawyer.

The lawyer shook his head, confused. Her mother was still being held for animal cruelty, and the victim, Ms. Hale, had made it clear she wouldn’t accept any private settlement.

Most people would have been sick with worry. Yet she looked positively thrilled, smiling with open malice.
