Mortimer clearly realized he had done something unforgivable agaiti, especially when faced with Wilmot’s incredulous and baffled gaze.
He forced out a self-mocking smile with difficulty. “I did something stupid again, didn’t I?”
Wilmot gave him a look that said, “Good that you understand.”
He stepped forward, patted Mortimer on the shoulder, and sighed, “I really don’t know what to say right now. As your friend, all I can do is wish you good luck.”
With that, Wilmot left the man who stood there in stunned silence behind and strode away.
Vivian, still slumped on the floor, had also understood the conversation between the two men.
The eager anticipation in her eyes was suddenly extinguished, and she looked at Mortimer with a deathly pale face.
At that moment, Mortimer slowly raised his wolfish eyes, now devoid of warmth; to look at her. The violent pheromones in the air had dissipated, replaced by a chilling calm that made one’s skin crawl.
“So, when you went to the Healing Center to find her, was it actually to tell her about this?”
His voice grew colder with every word, carrying the crushing weight of an alpha’s authority. Each syllable hit Vivian like a hammer, draining the color from her face.
“Mortimer…I-I was only doing it for your own good, it was Seraphina who…” Vivian rushed to explain, desperately trying to dump all the blame on Seraphina yet again.
“Shut up.”
Mortimer suddenly barked out the words, and it was not an ordinary rebuke, but an alpha command.
The compulsion to obey seared itself into Vivian’s mind.
Vivian’s whole body trembled violently, and the words she was about to say got stuck in her throat.
No matter how hard she tried to speak or struggled, only faint whimpers escaped her throat-she couldn’t force out a single
word.
All color drained from Vivian’s face, and instinctive fear made her inner wolf retreat deep within her mind.
Unable to speak, she could only let her tears fall as she met Mortimer’s sharp, emotionless gaze in utter despair.
