Chapter 229

Third Person’s POV
Perhaps Mortimer truly had no strength left to resist because of his fever, or maybe Tade’s final words had affected him. Either way, Mortimer was taken away from the complex.
When Mortimer opened his eyes again, the familiar scent of disinfectant mixed with herbs filled his nostrils.
“Alpha Mortimer, you’re awake.” Tade, who had stayed up all night, immediately moved to his side. Dark circles shadowed his
eyes.
Mortimer looked at him, then at the cotton pad on his hand, and surveyed his surroundings. “Am in the Healing Center?”
“Yes, Alpha Mortimer. You had a high fever last night, which caused your inner wolf to fall into deep dormancy. Your body’s natural healing ability almost shut down. If we had waited any longer, you would’ve developed pneumonia.” 1
A high fever?
Mortimer vaguely remembered-he recalled going to Seraphina’s house, only to be shut out by her. He had wanted to explain everything, but she had refused to hear him out and refused to believe him.
After that…what happened?
He could barely remember anything. The only thing that remained was the moment his consciousness slipped away, his wolf crying out in agony as the mate bond fell into a terrifying silence, the pain tearing through his body.
It felt as if a sharp claw was trying to tear his internal organs out of his body, and then he lost all sensation.
“Was…was she the one who brought me here?”
“No.” Tade’s answer struck Mortimer like another blow.
“It was Luna Seraphina who called me and asked me to bring you to the Healing Center.” Tade might not have realized the weight of his words, or perhaps he had meant to say them. Either way, the moment Mortimer heard them, his already pale face turned even whiter.
“Stop.” Mortimer shot Tade a cold look-none of his words were what Mortimer wanted to hear.
After speaking, he closed his eyes again, hiding the despair that surged within him.
She truly despised him now.
She hated him so much that even if he died right in front of her, she wouldn’t even care enough to take him to the Healing
Center herself.
After a while, Mortimer opened his eyes, the alpha’s pride slightly cracked.
He looked at Tade and commanded, “Release the video of Lillian abusing Dash to all media outlets, including the fact that Lillian is a member of the Davis family. Use the wolf pack’s resources to make sure it stays trending across every platform.”
Tade was stunned, full of confusion-wasn’t the video taken down before because he was worried Seraphina would be upset if she saw it?
After all that trouble, now it was being released again? Wasn’t he worried Seraphina would be sad this time?
Then a flash of insight struck Tade, and he suddenly realized something, which hit him like a jolt. “Oh no!”
He remembered that when he was ordered to take down the video in Mortimer’s office, something had felt off.
But at the time, he was swayed by Mortimer’s reasoning and didn’t realize there was a problem.

Thinking back now, the issue was huge-Mortimer’s original intention was not to let Seraphina see the video and feel sad, but how would she interpret it?
Would she think Mortimer had taken down the video to protect Viviant and her family?
Dash couldn’t get justice, and Seraphina, helpless to do anything, could only feel sad for Dash. Wasn’t that even more tormenting for her than watching the video?
No wonder she could be so ruthless toward Mortimer who wouldn’t be?
If he were Seraphina, he might even want to tear Mortimer apart.
As the pack’s dignified chief assistant and Beta, he had never reminded Mortimer about this.
A complete failure in his duty!
Thinking this, Tade braced himself and asked Mortimer, “Alpha Mortimer, did Luna Seraphina…find out?”
Mortimer shot him a sharp look. The regret and despair in his eyes made Tade instantly realize that something was terribly
wrong.
“Alpha Mortimer, I’ll take care of it right away.” With that, Tade dashed out of the hospital room.
Less than half a day later, photos and videos from the Davis family being escorted away by police two days ago flooded the
internet.
