Chapter 231
Third Person’s POV
Unlike Vivian, who was still blinded by the glory of the past, Connor had already been terrified by Mortimer’s ruthless actions.
If Mortimer still valued the favor of being saved back then enough to spare them, Lillian’s scandal of abusing a dog wouldn’t have been pushed to the top of every major platform by the Blade pack.
Even those small and medium-sized enterprises that depended on the Davis business began to distance themselves from the family overnight.
Moreover, Connor knew that the family had spent years leveraging that favor, using the Blade pack’s resources and connections for their own gain. It had gone far beyond repaying a debt of gratitude.
What’s more…Connor didn’t dare to think any deeper about what the truth really was back then.
It was a secret he could never afford to let anyone uncover.
He could only grasp at this final hope, clutching his daughter’s shoulders as if trying to convince himself that they still had a way out. “Vivian, whether our family can survive this time depends entirely on that favor you have on him! Go to the Craig Group and find Mortimer right now, stop acting like a spoiled child, kneel if you have to, and beg him, talk to him properly! Don’t do anything that might anger him or his wolf nature, and absolutely do not mention Seraphina in front of him! Do you understand?!
That name instantly made Vivian’s face turn ugly, her sharp nails digging deep into her palm.
But when she imagined becoming the laughingstock of all the werewolves in the city if the family went bankrupt, she swallowed her resentment and reluctantly nodded. “I understand, Dad. For the sake of the family, I’ll back down. I won’t provoke him again.”
Although Vivian had agreed to give in, the memory of that day in the private club hallway still haunted her. The way Mortimer had used Alpha Command to silence her, and the way he had looked at her like she was already dead had left a fear she couldn’t
shake.
The Lycan King who had once catered to her every desire and forgiven her every outburst seemed to be gone forever.
An unfamiliar sense of unease and panic tightened around her heart like a poisonous grip.
Meanwhile, Everreach Building Materials’ finance acted quickly and soon sent Connor the total breach-of-contract penalties for all projects with the Craig Group.
Connor opened it and his face changed dramatically. “What? Only 150 thousand dollars? Are you kidding me? How did you calculate this?”
“Maybe…you should check the contracts?”
Hearing the assistant’s tone over the phone, Connor felt his heart sank. He immediately realized something was wrong.
He hurriedly ended the call and opened the contract from the assistant. His fingers trembled violently as he scrolled through the pages on his phone.
He opened one of the contracts, and the penalty for breach was only 0.1%.
He shakily flipped through several more before finally sinking onto the sofa in despair. The highest penalty was only 0.1%, and some were even as low as 0.01%.
For projects worth tens of millions or hundreds of millions of dollars, this penalty was basically nothing.
Suddenly, Connor remembered that when Mortimer had given Everreach Building Materials those major projects, he had deliberately lowered the penalty fees to an almost unbelievable degree, all to protect them from potential losses.

Back then, the other shareholders of the Craig Group had disagreed, but Mortimer promised to personally pay any extra >enalties for Everreach Building Materials. In the end, the board reluctantly approved it.
At the time, Connor had felt smug, believing that Mortimer supported the family’s business so unconditionally because of this ife-saving debt.
hat smugness had turned into a blade hanging over their heads.
‘It’s over, all over.” Connor sank onto the sofa, his fingers too weak to hold his phone. It slipped from his hand and hit the floor.
Seeing his ashen face, Vivian panicked too. She hurriedly grabbed the phone and checked the contracts, her face turning just as
ale-150 thousand dollars…
That amount wasn’t even enough for her to buy a custom designer bag.
Everreach Building Materials still had many major projects underway, some just started, some nearing completion, and some lot even launched yet, but a lot of money had already been invested in preparation.
