Chapter 249
Third Person’s POV
Caldwell’s eyebrows rose slightly at her words. “If I have to wait until I find my destined luna, who knows how long that will take?” 1
As he spoke, he twirled the pen etched with faint sЯyer patterns between his fingers before handing it back to Seraphina. “You should use it. A good pen can dry out if it’s left unused for too long. It would be a waste. You can use it for your lesson plans.”
Worried she might feel he was overstepping and refuse, he thoughtfully added, “Who says paired items must be for couples? Siblings can use them too, right?”
He deliberately softened his words, giving her an easy way to accept the gift without thinking too much about the implication. That way, Seraphina couldn’t keep dwelling on the possibility that it was a matching couple’s item. She accepted the pen graciously. “Alright, thank you, Caldwell. I’ll use this one.”
The warmth in Caldwell’s eyes deepened, and his long, calloused fingers lifted slightly, as if he wanted to ruffle her hair now that she’d finally put her worries to rest.
But he stopped himself, forcing his hand back down.
Afterwards, Seraphina found Chloe’s contact in her messaging app and transferred the money for the pen. She added a note: ” Chloe, can you help me send this money to Randall? Tell him thank you for the pen, but I don’t want to just accept it for free. I hope he’ll take it.”
Chloe quickly replied that there was no need to pay and that Seraphina should just keep the pen.
But Seraphina insisted. After several rounds of back-and-forth, Chloe remembered that the pen’s packaging box appeared in some photos Vivian took that day-apparently, the pen was actually meant for someone else.
If it was for Mortimer, not accepting the money would be fine but since it was for someone else, the situation was different.
Thinking this through, Chloe accepted the money.
Seeing that Chloe finally took the money, Seraphina breathed a sigh of relief.
She really didn’t want to have anything more to do with Mortimer.
Randall gave her such an expensive pen, but ultimately, it was all because of her ties to Mortimer.
For the last three days, Seraphina thought she’d made things clear enough with Mortimer. All that remained was the day they would officially sever their mate bond. Although the pack court would still require a waiting period before their mate bond rejection was officially recognized, that was a separate matter. Mortimer could no longer force her to cooperate under the terms of their contract.
Thinking that she would soon be able to sever the heavy mate bond completely, she felt as if she could finally breathe easy.
Unexpectedly, even after she’d made her decision so clear, Mortimer still hadn’t given up.
For three days straight, flowers had been delivered to Seraphina’s office, and every noon, a perfectly prepared lunch appeared on her desk right on time.
Although she never saw the person delivering the items, the faint trace of Mortimer’s scent lingering on them made her immediately think of him.
Unable to stand it any longer, she pulled out her phone and sent Mortimer a message: “Please stop sending flowers and food.

You’re disrupting my work.”
As soon as she sent the message, the “typing…” indicator appeared in the chat box and stayed there for quite a while.
She stared at it expressionlessly before putting her phone away.
She stared at the exquisite meal in front of her Throwing it away felt wasteful, but she still couldn’t bring herself to eat anything that came from Mortimer.
“Sera, if you’re not going to eat it, can I have it?” Hersi Carter, a gentle beta who shared an office with her, joked as he leaned
over.
Seraphina’s eyes lit up. “You want it?”
“Of course.” Hersi took it, patting her shoulder. “I’ve seen this happen several times now-your clueless ex-inate sent it. What good does realizing his mistake do now? But if you don’t eat it, it’s a waste to throw it away. I don’t feel like walking to the cafeteria. If you don’t want it, just leave it for me every day.”
With someone to take care of the food, the flowers-which were clearly carefully chosen-were also too nice to throw away. So she gave them to colleagues or students who liked them.
