Chapter 49

Third Person’s POV

“But Morty, this place is for everyone. It’s a zoo. The pheromones are all over the place, and it’s loud. It’s not like Iceblade. I’m just worried the noise will stunt Rolf’s healing,” Vivian pushed, refusing to let it go.

She was desperate to cut the cord. If she could get Rolf out of this building, Mortimer would have zero excuses to keep “bumping into” Seraphina. That woman was getting too good at playing him.

But Mortimer was a wall. The man who used to cave to her every whim just shot her down again.

“This is a high-level VIP suite,” he said, his voice flat. “He’s in a private wing. No one is going to bother him.”

“But-”

“V!” Rolf snapped, cutting her off.

He looked at his sister with a mix of exhaustion and pity.

As an omega, he was hyper-tuned to the room. He could feel the jagged, freezing pulse of Mortimer’s Alpha aura. The air was thick with the scent of a predator who was seconds away from losing his cool.

If it weren’t for their history, Mortimer would have already walked out.

But Vivian was tone-deaf. She was so blinded by her own agenda she couldn’t feel the room freezing over.

“Shadowfang is fine,” Rolf said, his breath hitching from the effort. “Luna Seraphina is my lead healer. I trust her. If my soul- fracture spikes, she’s the only one I want nearby.” 1

He paused, his chest heaving. “Stop bothering Alpha Mortimer. He’s got a pack to run. He’s busy.”

Vivian stared at the icy distance in Mortimer’s eyes. As much as she wanted to scream, she forced herself to swallow the rage.” Fine. Whatever.”

Mortimer checked his watch, his expression unreadable. “I’m heading to the office. Rest up, Rolf.”

“Thanks, Alpha Mortimer. Sorry for the trouble,” Rolf muttered.

Mortimer gave a stiff nod and turned to Vivian. “I’m leaving the driver foryou. Just tell him when you’re ready to head out.”

He didn’t wait around for a goodbye. He pushed through the door and vanished into the hall.

Vivian collapsed into a chair, looking like she’d been gutted.

Rolf watched her, his brow furrowed. “What is wrong with you?”

Vivian looked at him, and then the floodgates opened. The tears started tracking down her face in messy streaks.

Rolf panicked, trying to push himself up, but the movement sent a white-hot flash of pain through his chest.

Between the emergency heart repair and two shattered legs, he was pinned to the bed. “V, talk to me. What happened?”

“Rolf…” she choked out, her voice turning sharp and hysterical. “Do you think… do you think Morty is falling for her?”

Rolf blanked. A look of pure confusion crossed his face.

“Luna Seraphina is his mate, Vivi. The bond is designed to make them fall for each other. That’s just… how it works.”

The logic hit Vivian like a physical slap.

The jealousy in her eyes turned into a bonfire. “How can you take her side?! You’re my family!”

She glared at him with a look so venomous it made Rolf’s skin crawl.

It wasn’t just anger; it was a bone-deep, twisted hatred that turned the room cold.

It felt like he was looking at a rabid wolf showing its teeth.

“Morty used to only care about me! If Seraphina hadn’t crawled into his life while I was gone, she’d never be the Luna. She just used the pack’s influence to trap him!”

Rolf went quiet. He watched his sister’s face contort into something ugly and unrecognizable.

He wanted to tell her the truth-that Mortimer was an Alpha. If he didn’t want to mate with Seraphina, no amount of “influence “could have made him sign that contract. 1

He chose her.

But looking at Vivian now, he didn’t dare say it.
