Third Person’s POV

Mortimer snatched his phone off the table, his face a blank mask. “This game is stupid,” he scoffed. “Let’s not play it again.”

Vivian looked at him, her voice dripping with fake sympathy. “I wonder what’s going on with Luna Seraphina? Usually she calls to check up on you before we even finish. Everyone else has already left, and she hasn’t called once.”

She paused, shooting him a hesitant look. “Morty, do you think she’s still mad at you? This is all my fault. I never should have asked you to keep me company. Now I’ve caused a fight between you two.”

Wilmot glanced up at her. “If you know that, then maybe don’t cross the line next time. Whether you like it or not, Morty is mated. Stop running to him for every little thing.”

He didn’t raise his voice, but the accusation was impossible to miss.

Vivian turned to him, her eyes instantly welling with tears.

She bit her lip, looking utterly wronged. “Willie, do you think I did this on purpose? I swear I never meant to cause trouble between them. I’m just… I’m just so insecure sometimes.”

She let out a small sob. “I’ll try my best not to rely on Morty so much from now on. I don’t want to be a burden to them.”

Vivian opened her mouth to keep defending herself, but Wilmot held up a hand, cutting her off completely.

“It doesn’t matter if I believe you or not. And by the way, stick to my full name, or call me Alpha Wilmot. Just drop the ‘Willie’.”

Vivian clearly hadn’t expected him to be so brutally honest. The sheer embarrassment of being seen right through made her face burn beet red.

She instantly dialed up the victim act. “Willie…”

But seeing Wilmot frown in disgust, she quickly corrected herself. “W-Wilmot.”

“Did Trista say something about me? Is that why you’re misunderstanding me?” She chewed on her bottom lip. “Trista and Seraphina are best friends, so I get why she might have the wrong idea about me. But I…”

“Enough,” Wilmot snapped, shutting her down.

His eyes flashed a dangerous gold. The crushing Alpha aura that rolled off him made Vivian

flinch in real terror.

“First you talk trash about Seraphina, and now you’re coming for Trista? I’m not Morty. I don’t buy your little innocent act.’

He stood up from the couch and grabbed his jacket, shooting her an ice-cold glare. “And Trista is the Luna of the Blood Moon Pack. You will refer to her as Luna Trista.” 2

Vivian stood frozen, shooting a desperate, pleading look at Mortimer.

Mortimer instinctively stepped in to bail her out. “Come on, Wilmot, it’s just a name. Why make a big deal out of it?”

Wilmot just shrugged, not even bothering to argue. He turned and headed for the door.

Right as he reached the exit, he stopped and looked back, almost as if he’d planned it. “Oh, by the way. Trista and Seraphina were in the same class, and Seraphina skipped a grade. That makes her a few years younger than you. You’re older than both of them, so running around calling them ‘big sister’ all the time? It’s honestly kind of embarrassing.” 1

Wilmot shut the door behind him and was gone.

Vivian stared at the closed door, her fists clenched so tight her knuckles turned white. Her face had flushed a dark, angry purple.

Seraphina must have said something to Trista, she thought furiously. That’s the only reason Wilmot would be so hostile.

Beside her, Mortimer grabbed his coat. “Come on,” he said, a faint, almost unnoticeable trace of exhaustion in his raspy voice. “I’ll take you home.”

Vivian instantly hid the dark look in her eyes and murmured, “Morty, I’m so jealous of how much everyone loves Seraphina. Wilmot is usually so aloof, but he went out of his way to rip into me just to defend her…”

ľ

The implication was heavy. Vivian was an expert at dropping these little hints to chip away at a

mate’s trust.

But this time, Mortimer just stayed silent.

In fact, a thoughtful look crossed his eyes. He muttered to himself, almost in a whisper, “Is Seraphina… actually mad at me?”

His voice was so low he seemed to be talking to himself, but Vivian caught every word.

Panic flared in Vivian’s chest. Still, she played along, throwing on her best innocent face. “It really is all my fault. I shouldn’t have had an episode right then and ruined your trip. If I hadn’t, she wouldn’t be giving you the silent treatment tonight.”

As she spoke, she carefully watched the dark storm brewing on Mortimer’s face.

Bingo. Just the mention of Seraphina.not calling made Mortimer’s brow furrow, a flash of pure irritation crossing his features.

“You can’t control when your condition flares up,” he said grimly. “If she’s actually holding that against you, then she’s being completely unreasonable.”

Vivian lowered her eyelashes, hiding a smug, triumphant gleam in her eyes.

As they walked out of the club, a staff member hurried over holding a fancy dessert box. “Miss Davis, the cake you ordered,” he said respectfully.
