Third Person’s POV

The Davis seniors looked like they wanted to crawl into a hole. Seeing their daughter unravel in front of a live global audience was a nightmare they hadn’t budgeted for.

Connor took a shaky step forward, trying to run damage control. “Mortimer, look, you’re getting the wrong idea about Vivian. She’s just a mess over Rolf. She posted that video because she was scared his surgeon wasn’t up to the task.”

He paused, testing the air. “Sure, maybe there was a misunderstanding. But those comments online? The ‘homewrecker’ stuff? Vivian didn’t write those. You know she’s not like that.”

Connor was a survivalist.

For years, he’d used Vivian’s “special status” to bleed the Blade Pack for favors and funding.

As long as they didn’t cross the line, Mortimer usually looked the other way.

But he never expected Mortimer to go nuclear on them in public.

He wasn’t as delusional as Lillian. He started groveling immediately.

“Rolf is our only son, Mortimer. When a tragedy like this hits, parents look for answers. Vivian just… let her emotions get the

best of her.”

He tried to brush off the global character assassination of Seraphina like it was a minor clerical error.

But Mortimer wasn’t buying the “oops” defense today.

“Is that right?” Mortimer’s eyes narrowed into lethal, gold-rimmed slits. “Because from where I was standing, if I hadn’t walked in, Mrs. Davis’ hand would’ve made contact with my mate’s face.”

Without a word of warning, Mortimer let his restraint snap. A physical hurricane of Alpha aura slammed into the Davis family.

It was the raw, archaic power of a Lycan King-cold, predatory, and absolute.

Lillian’s face drained of color. Her knees turned to water, and she stumbled back two steps, nearly hitting the floor.

“Mortimer, you… you don’t understand, I-” She couldn’t even finish the lie. Her teeth were literally chattering from the biological terror.

Mortimer let out a dry, jagged sound that might have been a laugh.

“That slap would’ve been a direct challenge to me. You’d have made me the laughingstock of the West Coast-the Alpha who can’t even keep his own mate safe in a hospital hallway.”

The weight of that sentence hit Lillian like a freight train.

The Davis were “rich” by human standards, but in the world of the Great packs, they were just an omega lineage riding on the Blade’s coattails.

If it were not for that incident years ago, when they climbed up by leveraging the Blade’s influence, the Davis would not even have a place.

They didn’t have the standing to breathe the same air as Mortimer, let alone cross him.

“No, no, Mortimer. I was just… I was hysterical over Rolf. I lost my mind.”

“Sure.” Mortimer’s voice was a flat, bored monotone. He pulled out a chair and sat down, his hands resting on the armrests like he was on a throne. He looked up at the trembling family.

Even sitting down, he owned every inch of the room.

His eyes-now full-on golden orbs-and the suffocating pressure he emitted forced the Davis to hunch their shoulders. Cold sweat was drenching Connor’s shirt. Their wolves were whimpering in the back of their minds.

“Are we feeling ‘calm’ now?” Mortimer asked.
