Chapter 2
Sophia’s always been scary efficient.
Less than three hours later, an encrypted file landed in my inbox.
Her note? Three words: “This is bad.”
I opened it. First document–Julian’s travel records from the past two years.
Pages and pages of flight logs. But one date jumped out immediately.
Christmas. A year ago.
Records showed Julian did fly out that day. But he came back that same night.
He said it was a business trip. Really? He was hiding his tracks to see another woman.
That same day, Chloe posted on Instagram–some elaborately decorated date setup.
That bouquet decorating the backdrop? He gave me the exact same roses the next day.
Second document–Julian’s bank statements.
Multiple large transfers labeled “project investment,” all flowing into a studio called “Better Late Than Never.”
Legal owner? Chloe Bennett.
And the kicker? The transfer dates lined up perfectly with Valentine’s Day, my birthday, even our wedding
anniversary.
So every time he finished celebrating with me, he’d turn around and send money to his little mistress.
All that talk about “investing in our future“? Never meant me. Never meant us.
My chest went numb. I clicked on the next file, my face blank.
A surveillance video.
The footage showed Julian with Chloe at a baby store, picking out infant supplies.
He held her carefully, his face lit up with this soft, tender smile I’d never seen before.
Date stamp? The day I went to the hospital for my follow–up

Chapter 2
Unbelievable.
Fucking bastard!
Too busy with work to come with me. But free enough to shop for baby gear with her?
The last file made my blood run cold.
A copy of a betting agreement. My name signed at the bottom.
Date? The exact day he told me, “The company needs cash flow. I need you to sign off on this.”
Turns out his so–called “crisis” was him using my name to lock me into this high–risk deal.
If the project tanked, I’d be stuck with over a hundred million in debt. Meanwhile, he’d already transferred his assets to Chloe’s name. Set up his escape route long ago.
That bastard used my trust to set me up.
What a brilliant fucking plan.
I closed the file and called Sophia.
“You done reading? What’s the move?”
I stared out the window at the sinking sun, my voice so calm it felt foreign even to me.
“Get all the evidence of Julian transferring assets together. I’m gonna give him a surprise.”
I paused.
“Also–dig into Chloe’s background. I need to know if she’s actually clueless, or if she’s just a scheming bitch.”
Right then, my phone buzzed. A message from Julian.
“Happy anniversary, babe. Got a last–minute work dinner. Be home late.”
Attached–a photo of some upscale restaurant.
I zoomed in on the image. In the reflection of the floor–to–ceiling windows, I could just make out a familiar figure.
Chloe Bennett. The same woman who sat in my office this afternoon.
I stared at the photo and let out a laugh.
Julian. Gotta hand it to you–you really committed to the performance.
