Chapter 5
Hearing this, Kai’s face went dark instantly. He snapped:
“Who hit the thousandth like?”
The messenger looked confused and explained nervously:
“It wasn’t me! Lia borrowed my phone when she came to get her resignation papers. She clicked it herself.”
“Resignation? Who authorized her resignation?”
“Ms. Sterling is one of the company shareholders. She can decide her own employment status. That’s the rule you set, sir. Did you forget?”
“Well, she can kiss her company shares goodbye then.”
“Ms. Sterling withdrew all her investments a few days ago.”
“Withdrew? That’s impossible!”
A flash of panic crossed Kai’s face. But Olivia, completely missing his distress, kept running her mouth:
“Lia’s just playing games to make you cave. Classic manipulation tactics. Kai, don’t let her fool you again.”
Kai didn’t respond, just kept staring at his phone.
He tried to text me, then remembered he’d blocked me ages ago.
Seeing this, Olivia sighed softly and said with fake concern:
“I could tell from the beginning that Lia wasn’t right for you.”
“She’s paranoid and controlling. Can’t even handle you having normal friendships.”
“Now she’s trying to force you to apologize. Obviously she doesn’t give a damn about your feelings.”
Kai’s finger froze, something stirring in his chest.
Suddenly he remembered all the things I used to do for him.
Warming his hands in winter, holding umbrellas for him in the rain.
Even running across half the city when he was down, just to get his favorite wine.
These memories hit him like needles, making him inexplicably irritated.
“Liv, don’t talk about her like that.”
He finally spoke, his voice stiff.
Olivia looked stunned, then hurt: “Kai, I’m just worried about you.”
“Look, it’s scorching hot, you’re here suffering, and she won’t even text you back.”
Chapter 5
“If it were me, I’d never let you go through this.”
“You deserve so much better.”
Kai unblocked me and dialed my number directly.
But all he got was a cold automated message: “Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable…”
His heart sank, fingers trembling slightly.
