Vivian stood there with her arms crossed, radiating certainty like she’d just solved a crime.

Behind her, Damian stepped forward, his chin lifted, his eyes narrowed. “Still can’t let go, huh?” He shook his head slowly, performatively. “Following your ex-wife to a private club. That’s a new low, even for you.”

Ethan set down his ice water. Disgust crawled up his throat.

“Who gave you the confidence?” His voice was flat. Cold. He didn’t bother standing. “Seriously, Vivian. I’m asking. Who told you that you’re worth following anywhere?”

Vivian’s smug expression cracked for half a second before she recovered. She uncrossed her arms and pointed a manicured finger at him.

“Drop the act, Ethan.” Her tone shifted-sharper now, instructive, like she was disciplining a child. “You think I can’t see through this? Playing hard to get. Pretending you don’t care.”

She pulled out the chair across from him and sat down, crossing her legs with deliberate grace. “It won’t

work on me.”

Damian slid into the seat beside her, his eyes never leaving Ethan-resentful, poisonous.

The last thread of Ethan’s appetite snapped. He set his napkin aside and raised a hand, signaling the server with two polite fingers.

The young man arrived in seconds. “Yes, sir. How can I assist you?”

“I don’t know these two people,” Ethan said, voice perfectly even. “They’re interrupting my meal. Please

escort them away.”

The server blinked, glanced between the three of them, then nodded. “Of course, sir. Ma’am, sir-I’ll need to ask you to return to your own table.”

Vivian’s face went scarlet.

She shot up from her seat, palms slamming flat on the table. “Ethan Carter!” Her voice cracked higher than she intended. “Stop this. Stop pretending you don’t know me just to protect your pathetic pride!”

Her chest heaved. She jabbed a finger at him.

“You think this hurts me? You think pushing me away makes you look strong?” Her voice trembled between fury and something that might have been genuine bewilderment. “Keep this up and you’ll push me so far away I’ll never forgive you. Never. Is that what you want?”

Ethan leaned back in his chair. A cold smile touched his lips.

“Vivian.” His tone was almost gentle, which somehow made it worse. “Did you soak your brain along with your body in that hot spring? Because water clearly got in.”

Her breath caught.

His gaze slid to Damian.

“And you take your little lapdog act somewhere else. The desperate puppy routine suits you, though. Very on-brand.”

Damian’s fists clenched under the table. A vein pulsed at his temple. But before he could spit out whatever was building behind his teeth-

“Well, well. Long time no see.
