Chapter 72
Aurora read the message once, then again, her thumb frozen over the screen.
Aurora. I’ve reviewed Stellaris’s transformation plan. Bold, precise, exactly the kind of move I’d expect from you. You’re a rare thing in this city-a woman with real ambition and the ability to back it up. I admire that.
She let out a breath. Praise from Margaret Carter was worth more than a signed contract from anyone else
Then came the next line.
But I hope that ambition and ability of yours won’t stay locked inside your career alone. I asked you to look after Ethan for a reason, my dear. I’d like you to remember that.
Aurora shot up straight in her chair.
Her heart slammed against her ribs. She read it a third time, and the meaning did not change. It was not
a hint. It was almost a declaration.
Margaret wants me and Ethan together.
Heat rushed straight to her face. For one dangerous second, Aurora almost laughed out loud in the office like some lovestruck girl who had lost her mind.
It’s like an impossible dream has suddenly come true!
Then, suddenly, the giddiness drained away, and the tangle came rushing in.
Because she didn’t know how Ethan felt. Not really. He was gentle with her, patient with her, but gentle and patient with everyone he respected. That wasn’t the same thing.
And there was Sophie.
Aurora’s smile faded. Only days ago she had sat across from her younger sister and told her, plainly, that neither of them could ever be with Ethan. She’d said it to protect Sophie. She’d said it to protect herself.
Now what?
If she told Sophie about Margaret’s message, she would be creating her own rival. Sophie still had feelings for Ethan. Aurora knew that. Everyone knew that.
But if she kept it secret? If she pursued Ethan behind Sophie’s back and Sophie found out later?
That would destroy them.
Their already fragile family ties will fall apart in an instant.
Aurora pressed her palm against her forehead. ‘God, what do I do?

She thought about Ethan’s steady gaze. The way he looked at her during meetings. The impossible warmth that crept into his voice when they spoke alone. Margaret’s words echoed again: ‘I entrusted
Ethan to you for a reason.’
Her fingers stopped trembling.
She loved him. She wanted more with him. Whatever complications came after, whatever conversations she’d need to have with Sophie, she would face them. But she would not let fear stop her from reaching
for what she wanted.
‘I’m done hiding,’ she thought.
She grabbed her bag and strode out of the office.
It was just after work, and the entire company was in motion.
The elevator hall and main corridor were crowded with employees leaving in waves, the sound of footsteps and chatter blending into one restless hum.
Aurora walked straight through it all.
People greeted her out of habit.
“Good evening, Ms. Sinclair.”
“Ms. Sinclair.”
“CEO Sinclair.”
She did not even slow down.
Heads turned one after another.
Aurora always acknowledged people, even if only with a nod. Today she looked different. Her face seemed brighter, her steps quicker, her eyes alive with a kind of impatience no one had ever seen on her.
“What’s gotten into her today?”
“She’s practically glowing.”
“Look at her-she’s searching for someone.”
“Who on earth is worth the great Aurora Sinclair chasing after him?”
She did not hear a word of it. Her eyes swept the crowd once, twice-and then she found him.
A tall figure, broad-shouldered, moving toward the far exit. That back. That easy stride. She would know
