Chapter 73

A sharply dressed man walked over with long, casual strides. He wore a dark tailored coat over an expensive shirt, every detail screaming old money. His face was handsome in a flashy, aggressive way,
and his smile carried the kind of confidence that came from never hearing no.
As he passed Ethan, he bumped his shoulder on purpose.
Then he went straight to Aurora as if nobody else existed.
“It’s been a while,” he said, beaming, holding her hand like it was already his. “What’s this? You’re welcoming me this warmly today, Aurora? I’m honored.”
Aurora went rigid.
Ethan’s brow furrowed as he looked at her, puzzled.
Around them, several Stellaris employees suddenly showed understanding on their faces.
So that was it. The person Aurora had been calling out to was not Ethan at all. It was this man.
Julian Blackwood. The heir to Blackwood Enterprises, the wealthiest family in the city. A man who had been pursuing Aurora openly for months.
That made sense.
Aurora yanked her hand back. “What are you doing here?” she asked coldly.
Julian did not seem offended at all. “I came to ask whether you’re free tonight. A friend of mine is hosting a gathering. It’ll be fun.”
“I’m busy.” Aurora’s answer was flat.
Julian’s smile faded just a little. His eyes shifted to Ethan.
He had caught that one moment. That bright look in Aurora’s face. That soft, eager call. It had not been
for him. He knew it on instinct.
“Busy?” he repeated. “With him?”
Aurora did not hesitate. “Yes.”
Julian’s gaze darkened for half a second, but he smiled again soon enough. It was the kind of smile that looked friendly only from far away.
“I see.” He turned fully toward Ethan. “Then let me get to know the man taking up your evening. I bet anyone you set your eyes on is definitely no ordinary person.”
He extended a hand with perfect manners.
“Julian Blackwood. Blackwood Capital. And yes, before you ask, I’m the Blackwood family’s heir.”

He waited a beat, then looked Ethan over. “And you are?”
Watching Julian’s provocative stance, Ethan couldn’t help but scoff inwardly.
He had just fired two bastards this morning, so why was an arrogant rich kid from some minor family popping up out of nowhere now? And by the looks of it, was this guy actually treating him as a love rival?
What a tedious world.
Even so, he composed his thoughts, prepared to size up this man who was clearly pursuing Aurora.
“Ethan Carter,” he said. “Deputy Head of the Marketing Department at Stellaris.”
He raised his hand as well, calm and direct, ready to shake.
But just as their hands were about to meet, Julian suddenly withdrew his own.
The movement was small. The insult was not.
