“Family hitting family,” Aurora said, and the amusement was back. “You can’t make this up.”
Bianca stood perfectly still for three full seconds. Then the tension drained out of her body like water from a cracked glass. She pressed her palm to her forehead and let out a long, shaky breath.
“I had no idea,” she said. “Nobody told me it was him. Rocco just said some man was causing trouble and had his eye on me-which, by the way, is completely ridiculous-”
“Sounds like someone fed Rocco bad information.”
“Obviously.” Bianca’s jaw tightened. Then she exhaled again, and this time something close to relief colored her voice. “Well. If it’s Ethan, then this is simple. This whole mess is just a misunderstanding.”
“A very expensive misunderstanding,” Aurora said. “How’s your bar looking?”
“I haven’t seen it yet. But from what my guy described, I’m guessing I’ll need new furniture.” Bianca paused. “And possibly a new Rocco.”
“Get down there before Marcus does something else stupid.”
“Already moving.” Bianca pushed through the door into the night air, her guards flanking her. The tension in her chest had dissolved, replaced by something sharp and incredulous.
‘Ethan Carter,’ she thought, shaking her head as she climbed into the car. ‘Of all people.’
Earlier, back at the hot spring resort, she had already been slightly surprised by how unfazed Ethan remained in the face of such luxurious architecture. Now, she certainly hadn’t expected him to be so good in a fight. She was truly beginning to seriously reflect on the relationship between Ethan and
Aurora.
Was he really Aurora’s kept man? Keeping a kept man of such high caliber must be incredibly expensive, right? Or perhaps their relationship wasn’t what she had assumed all along?
But at least one thing was certain: someone was finally here to teach her arrogant brother a lesson.
At this thought, the corners of Bianca’s mouth curled upward.
The engine turned over. The headlights cut through the dark.
Marcus hauled himself upright, one hand braced on the shattered remains of a table. His legs wobbled. His chest burned where the palm strike had landed.
He stared at Ethan.
“Who the hell are you?” Marcus’s voice was raw, stripped of its earlier bravado. “I know every fighter worth knowing in this city. Nobody hits like that. Nobody.”

Ethan rolled his shoulder and brushed a splinter of wood off his sleeve. “So you’re finally willing to listen.”
“My name is Ethan Carter,” Ethan said. “Deputy head of Stellaris International Trading’s marketing division. The same Stellaris that’s about to sign a partnership deal with your brokerage next week.”
The bar went dead silent.
Marcus blinked. Then blinked again.
“You’re-” His voice cracked. “You’re Ethan Carter?”
“In the flesh.”
“That’s impossible.” Marcus shook his head, wincing at the movement. “I was told you were some lowlife stalking my sister. Some nobody who-”
“Some nobody who what?” Ethan cut him off. His gaze slid past Marcus and landed on Rocco, who was slumped against the far wall, barely conscious, held upright by two of his men. “Who told you that, Marcus? Who exactly painted that picture for you?”
