CHAPTER 184
– JAMIE
The rest of our honeymoon went by far too fast.

There was sunshine, the ocean, laughter, and an indecent amount of sex. We made love in the bedroom, in the pool, in the shower, and just about everywhere else in that gorgeous house. At some point, I lost count of how many times Simon carried me upstairs, claiming he needed to show me something in the bedroom.
Then it was the morning we had to leave.
“Are you sure we can’t stay another week?” I asked, taking one last look at the house.
Simon stood beside me in a white linen shirt and sunglasses, one hand resting on my waist.
“We can stay another month if you want.”
I turned to him immediately.
“Are you serious?”
“Completely.”
I smiled, then remembered work.
“On second thought, we probably shouldn’t. The office was already a mess when we left. I can only imagine what it looks like now.”
Simon sighed and nodded.
“Yeah. We have a lot to deal with.”
“Damn it. I was starting to get used to doing nothing all day.”
“Nothing?” He raised an eyebrow. “I thought we had a pretty busy week, Mrs. Hart.”
I laughed and swatted his arm.
“You know what I mean!”
“I do, baby. Just making sure I get credit for doing my part as your husband.”
“Idiot.”
He laughed and pulled me in for one last kiss.
Our bags had already been taken to the island’s small terminal, where the jet was waiting. Hernández stood near the vehicle that had brought us over, going through the final details with a member of the flight crew.

He came over to greet us as we approached.
“Mrs. Hart. Mr. Hart. I hope you enjoyed your stay.”

“It was wonderful, Rafael,” I said with a smile. “Thank you so much for taking such good care of everything.”
“My pleasure, ma’am.”
I held out my hand, and he shook it politely.
For a moment, I thought of the argument Simon and I had had a few days earlier. I glanced at my husband, expecting that familiar closed-off expression.
But he was simply watching.
He didn’t interrupt, pull me closer, or make a comment when I thanked the caretaker again.
He waited until we were finished.
“Hernández,” he said, offering his hand. “Thank you for everything.”
The man shook it.
“Anytime, Mr. Hart.”
“We’ll be back soon. Probably with a few more people next time. I’d like to bring the family out to see the island.”
“We’d be happy to have you all, sir.”
Simon nodded.
“Until next time.”
“Have a safe flight, both of you.”
We headed toward the plane, and I waited until we were out of earshot before looking at my husband.
“Everything okay?”
He frowned.
“Why wouldn’t it be?”
“No reason. Just asking.”
Simon looked at me over his sunglasses.
“Jamie.”
“What?”

“Were you waiting for me to complain because you shook the caretaker’s hand?”
I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from smiling.
“Maybe.”
He sighed.
“I’m trying to do better, baby.”
Warmth spread through my chest.
“I noticed.”
I stopped at the foot of the jet’s stairs and turned to him.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For always trying to be a better man.”
His expression softened.
“You’re worth the effort, baby.”
I rose onto my toes and kissed him.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too. Now get on that plane before I decide we’re not leaving.”
“You wouldn’t.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“Want to bet?”
I boarded, laughing.
Once we took off, I spent a few minutes watching the island disappear through the window.

It looked even more beautiful from above. The green of the trees stood out against the pale sand, and there were so many shades of blue in the water that it looked like a painting.
Our island.
I still had trouble believing Simon had bought that little piece of paradise and named it after me.
When we reached cruising altitude and the seat belt sign went off, I unbuckled and walked over to the couch, where my husband was going through messages on his phone.

“Busy, Mr. Hart?”
He looked up..
“For you? Never.”
I smiled and settled sideways in his lap, looping my arms around his neck.
Simon put his phone down immediately.
“Keep this up and you’re going to spoil me.”
“You’re already spoiled.”
“My wife’s always teasing me. It’s a real hardship.”
“You poor thing.”
He rested one hand on my waist and the other across my legs.
