“What are you looking at? You seem awfully happy.”

Iris put her phone away and looked up at Vivian Hart, who had just spoken.

Vivian had regained consciousness the day before. After a thorough examination, the doctors confirmed that all her vital functions were normal. The only thing left was to continue monitoring the recovery of her arm and leg.

“Nothing.” Iris smiled and walked over to her bedside. “Aunt Vivian, is there anything you want to eat? I can go get it.”

Vivian stared at her suspiciously before saying sternly, “Don’t even think about getting revenge on those people again! What did I tell you?”

When Vivian first woke up, Iris had already filled her in on the general situation. She had even asked how she wanted to handle James. Unexpectedly, Vivian had insisted on letting the matter go.

“Like I told you, James has connections in Capital City. You and Ares both live there. Sooner or later your paths might cross.”

“I’m thinking about the two of you. Don’t corner a desperate dog. Besides, he’s already been hauled into the police station twice. Everyone knows about what happened. He’s been punished enough.”

Vivian had spent her whole life working service jobs and enduring hardship. No matter how many times Iris told her not to worry about anyone else and simply do what she truly wanted, Vivian ultimately chose not to pursue the matter any further.

“How come you didn’t tell me you were out here?”

Ares stood up. “When I got here, you and Aunt Vivian were talking. I figured I’d let you finish. And I already spoke with Gordon about Lee’s Kitchen. Let’s go.”

“You were eavesdropping?”

Ares smiled helplessly. “I only heard that one sentence.”

Iris nodded leisurely and walked beside him toward the stairwell.

“You’re surprisingly forward–thinking, Mr. Barclay. Somehow you always end up thinking exactly the same way I do.”

Ares stopped midway down the stairs and turned to look at her.

He knew she would eventually figure it out.

He just hadn’t expected her to figure it out this quickly.
