Chapter 229 The Hacker Competition
Chapter 229 The Hacker Competition
At the GHE networking summit, every attendee wore a mask. Some went a step further, wang vá changers to completely hide their identities.
Only the top 200 people on the rankings were qualified to attend.
Most of the masks were intimidating–solid black, pure white, or decorated with elaborate looked powerful and imposing.
Events like this were the perfect opportunity for people to create larger–than–life personas
Connor, wearing a No–Face mask, looked a little out of place among the crowd and was immediately beg teased by his companions.
“Connor, you’re ranked second in the world. How can your taste be this childish?”
“Seriously! Your ranking sounds impressive, but then people see the mask and–haha
Connor ignored them entirely, keeping his eyes fixed on the entrance. It had taken him an entire year to finally force that person to show up. This time, he was definitely going to have a rematch.
A newcomer asked curiously, “Who’s Connor waiting for?”
“Who else? Rhys–the long–standing number one hacker on the rankings‘ They haven’t taken any jobs in ages, but GHE’s score estimate still places them at the top. Connor’s never been able to surpass them, so of course it drives him crazy.”
“Rhys? From Z Country?”
“Yeah. They’re basically a legend in GHE.”
“Wow. What does the name mean? Whatever it is, it must sound powerful.”
Just as the newcomers were making guesses, the person who had been waiting at the door suddenly shouted excitedly, “Rhys is here!”
Iris wore a mas s she presented her electronic invitation at the entrance. The staff member immediately became respectful. He was just about to sneak a look at the legendary hacker’s face when he froze.
The legend’s taste in masks was… unique.
Iris already didn’t want to come to this place, so she couldn’t be bothered to say a word. As soon as her invitation was verified, she walked straight inside.
The venue had been set up to look like a proper academic conference, held in an abandoned laboratory that had clearly been cleaned in a hurry.
If you ignored the chaotic mess of power strips and cables on the tables, it actually looked convincing
When the people inside heard the announcement, they all turned toward the entrance.

Chapter 229 The Hacker Competition
What they saw was a short, long–haired “man” wearing a cheap plastic Monkey mask.
It felt as if the air itself had frozen.
+30 Free Cons
Connor turned around with a face full of anticipation. The moment he saw the monkey mask, e completely lost his composure.
The last time they competed, Rhys had worn a plain black mask, their presence cold and overwhelming. That image had been deeply etched into his memory.
But this one… looked like something picked up at a random toy store on the side of the road.
Everyone else felt the same way. The top two experts on the leaderboard really were a pair of opposites in every way–including their terrible taste in masks.
“Rhys? You’re Rhys?”
“Mhm.”
Iris was using a voice changer as well, switching back to the same voice she had used on GHE–a slightly androgynous young man’s voice.
“Give me the lead.”
The organizers standing behind Connor spoke up. “Same rules as always. You have to compete first.”
“You quit taking jobs but have been sitting at number one for years. That puts GHE in a difficult position. If you lose to Connor this time, we’ll move him to the top spot.”
The Monkey mask tilted slightly. “Can’t he just take more jobs and update his score himself?”
“Who can catch up to you? You took so many high–difficulty missions in a row that your score is ridiculous.”
“To be honest, we wanted to promote Connor to number one directly, but the kid insisted on facing you.”
“Win, and you get the kidnappers‘ lead. Lose, and you go back empty–handed.”
Connor didn’t y a word. He was already seated at the computer, every muscle in his body tense, as if he could start wong at any second.
“Fine.”
Not wanting to waste any more time, Iris pulled over a chair and sat beside him.
Connor caught a faint, pleasant scent in the air.
Thus guy actually wears perfume?
The thought disappeared as quickly as it came. The two of them opened their laptops with practiced case

“What’s the challenge?”
+30 Free Coins
A man in a ghost mask standing beside Connor tapped a few times on his phone, and the same interface popped up on both of their screens.
“This IP address is in the middle of an information war. None of the parties involved are exactly nodent. Your task is to infiltrate the battle. Whoever hacks one side first and then avoids being hacked themselves for ten minutes wins.”
The ghost–masked man had barely finished speaking when both competitors clicked the link and began typing. Afraid of falling even a second behind, Connor was visibly tense.
He had trained for so long. This was finally his chance to defeat Rhys.
This time, he would wash away his past humiliation.
Everyone crowded around to watch the competition.
A ring of masked figures surrounded the two competitors. making the scene strangely eerie.
“Rhys hasn’t taken a mission in so long. but their hand speed hasn’t declined at all. Their decryption speed is actually faster!”
“Tsk. I thought Connor had this in the bag, but now I’m changing my mind.”
“Still, that mask is really… something. Do all geniuses have such unique tastes?”
The monkey mask was so out of place that it shattered the mood entirely.
Hearing the comments, Iris silently added another mark to Zane Walker’s debt in her mind.
Connor was already breaking into a sweat.
Both of their decryption progress bars climbed rapidly, racing neck and neck across the screen. For a while, it was impossible to tell who would win.
“This time, I’m definitely beating you,” Connor muttered under his breath.
Compared to Connor’s small, nervous movements, Iris looked as steady as a mountain. Sitting before the computer, the only part of her body that moved was her fingers. The rest of her was as still as a statue.
At eighty percent, the opposing hackers finally realized another force had entered the battle. They immediately stopped fighting each other and joined forces to deal with the two intruders.
“Why are they all targeting Rhys? Are they going to lose this time?”
“Connor built a defensive program before attacking. His defense is strong, so they think he’s harder to
crack.”
“I see. Compared to him, Rhys’s side is… completely unguarded?”
No wonder all the attacks were directed at them
Yet fris’s speed didn’t slow downs its the chess desgate the exverwhen we the remai exactly level with Connor

He turned to look at Iris’s computer screen, disbelief evident in his voice.
